It does look rather swish and I scored one of those with my Golf. I don't feel too confident in the plastic one for opening bottles, not that I'd be doing that in the car anyway.

The plastic one still has metal inserts where it grips under the lid of the bottle, so its going to be still strong enough to open most bottles.. The full stainless steel one stands out a bit with the black console, they need a matt black full stainless steel opener..that would be sweet.

I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. I looked up Maverick's site and there's no information re a retro fit of a bottle opener! I know I should've done a thread search first though...

It will fit but why would you fit that insert when it's a pov pack option?

The Americans are replacing theirs with the style that we get standard here in Australia.

And it's a big job requiring you to remove the gear stick knob, surrounds, the whole console and so on.

Old one was all metal and worked well. New one is a lot lighter , but I will have to wait until my GTI arrives next month to compare - still have the old bottle opener. Cheaper to make I would say.

the bottle opener was missing from my 118TSI when I picked it up last Friday. I emailed them and they will post me this VW legendary device!

I thought my bottle opener was missing - they'd left it in the glovebox.

I have both and the old one just looks more solid and it is the one I use in the bottle slot. Had been told changed simply because of pricing - therefore new one must be cheaper for VW.

The bottle opener was the clincher on the deal to get the GTI for me. I thought it was a absolutely fantastic idea. The amount of times i have been caught out at a BBQ with out a bottle opener...... No More. Thanks VW.
