Boost Gauge + Mounting Options

Haha, I've got great selection (ok long list) of apps on my Galaxy S2 and doubt I've spent more than $10 total since most were free or on special. I wonder how much the cheapest suitable Android device would set you back. There are a couple of media players (iPod Touch equivalents) out there.

As far as the pipes thing goes, It's always been true for fuel pressure gauges for obvious fire hazard reasons. I'm not entirely certain if it applies to boost/vacuum or oil. There is a ghetto method of boost control that uses a needle valve to trick the waste gate that wouldn't be legal (at least not cabin mounted) if this is true. If you think about it, the safety risk is minimal, since the line only contains air.

Also my Mini 1100 had a factory oil pressure gauge that was direct acting and had a copper oil line running into the back of the dashboard. If that is not legal then the rules have changed since 1971.

As I said if there is a blanket ban then the risk analysis involved was pretty poor.

Its not just straight air. any oil, unburnt fuel and exhaust gas that is recirculated for heating the engine up while still cold is redirect back into the intake as its ilegal to vent to atmosphere.
and thats what will also be in the lines.
Even though its as a very small amount and little risk to anyone its still a risk. and oyu know that goverment agencies will always go the knee jerk safe option.

Your mini was made like that so it is acceptable. and was made before this come in to play but keep in mind that there are a lot of cars made right now that are approved for sale in Aus but would still fail some ADR's if you checked really close.
If you look right into it you cant change the car one bit without a engineering certificate. even if it was a option that wasnt ticedk but now installed. they added laws to state road rules to allow for bigger wheels and lowering of the car to a certin degree but never changed over sections. Im a mechanical engineer and have tried to get those that write these rules to think about what there changing and what it will affect elswhere but they dont listen i tried for years in NSW. They banned gauges being put outside the windscreen for fear of injury to people if there hit, but it still ok for a bullbar that weighs more then the car to be fitted. im now in tasmania and they have silly laws to.
if you have a old car that was built before seat belts where law you dont need to fit them. but if you want to for your own safty you have to use a modern 3 point seatbelt and get a engineering certificate and have it put over the pit aswell which cost a around $1k all up

Sooo... where the hell do you tap the boost line into on the 118TSI 1.4 Twin charged motor?

Maybe I'm blind, maybe it's hidden?? But WHERE!?

Try and find the fuel pressure regulator and tap off the air line going to it. i say this assuming that the FPR is on or near the fuel rail like most cars. but iv never had the cover off and nowing VW it could be anywhere.

I've installed everything and at the moment it's tapped just after the Turbo and seems to be reading about what I would expect. Guy Harding tells me there is probably a better place buried deep behind the engine which I might have to investigate further.
For the moment final mounting/tiding of the piping in the engine bay isn't finished while I look into things but I have done things in a way which means I didn't have to cut any of the stock piping so I can put it back if I want to move the tap somewhere else.

For reference a stock tune reports about 15-16 PSI at it's peak.
