    Bluetooth...whats the deal

Dad is buying a 118 TSA Comfortline, DSG, Dynaudio pack, Sport pack with adaptive chassis....

The steering wheel has phone controls...is bluetooth standard in this spec Golf or an option?

If its an option, how much does it cost?

    Thankyou Thankyou

It is most definitely optional, & is a minefield out there in finding the right one at the right cost.
Premium Bluetooth via the dealer can be quoted as much as $1899, though relatively easy to get the price down to around $1450 or so.
Premium Bluetooth fully intergrates your phones' addressbook into the RNS510, & allows you to have full control via the touch screen. Eg dialing, searching for numbers, answering calls etc, etc, etc.
Everything is displayed on the touch screen, & you don't have to touch your phone at all.
This is the only legal way to take & receive calls, as the law (in Qld) says that you cannot touch the phone at all, not even pick it up to look at the phones' screen.

Lesser bluetooth systems seem to retail for around $700, & just simply routes the sound thru the cars stereo.
Still good, but nowhere near the convenience of the Premium System.

At $700, it would still seem quite overpriced.

Apparently there are some Parrot Bluetooth systems available for $200- $300 as well.
Do a search on these forums, especially under "Premium Buetooth".

    Good luck.

That's an insane price. All that money just to make a few calls from a car?

I'm on the road all day everyday, making & receiving calls all the time.
Yes, the price is high, however consider this:
The actual price gets lost in the overall deal, including how much you get for your trade, & to use it is completely legal, as there's no need to touch the actual phone, especially when searching for a number to dial.
That & the fact that Uncle Kevin helps me pay for it, as it's my work vehicle.

If price was the determining factor, we'd all be driving Hyundai Getz 3 doors, & they'd never sell a BMW, Merc, etc.

Even at this level, a Golf is a premium purchase, & if you can afford the car in the first place, you can probably decide whether or not expensive options are worth it.

Having only dabbled with the Premium Bluetooth system, personally, I'd be more than content with the basic one. Easy to use, and easy to install
