Even at this level, a Golf is a premium purchase, & if you can afford the car in the first place, you can probably decide whether or not expensive options are worth it.

It doesn't justify why anyone would willingly spend MORE on a bluetooth car system than a top spec PDA phone. Seems weird is all.

From that description... as long as the phone is in a holder it is perfectly fine to touch it and make a call. Most modern phones have built in speakerphone and voice dialing.

I take your point, but in discussing the issue with a client as recently as 20/07/09 (a Qld Police Officer), even touching the phone to make or receive a call will get you on the wrong side of the law. (whilst driving or at the lights)

True, some can justify spending the money, & some can not.

I spend so much time working from the car, & as a Sole Trader, don't have support staff to assist with telephone traffic.
My clients know they can contact me very easily, without having their calls always fowarded to voicemail, or for me to have to pull over to take a call.

a) It's not always convenient to pull over
b) In Brisbane traffic, if you pull over, the travel time will lengthen exponentially

I'm glad I optioned it, as it works brilliantly.
That said, it is stupidly expensive.

Bluetooth was an option in my Mazda 2, but was a standard inclusion in my VE SS.
Whether an option or not, bluetooth is worth having (for me), & the more functionality the better.

If the cheaper one suits your needs best, go for the cheaper one. The Premium Bluetooth in my Mark VI is definitely superior to those other systems I've had, in it's operation & ease of use.

On a similar vein, I've never been able to work out why anyone would willing pay $2500+ to cut a hole in one of the most important structural parts of the car (the roof).

I could never justify the cost of a sunroof, at any price.

Understand going the factory route but for $700+ you're best to get yourself a Bury car kit and save saving yourself a fair bit of wedge.

I am biased as I work for Burybut a CC9060 or a RC 9060 would give you full voice activation and will read your emails if you have a blackberry, they are also German

the premium kit is mainly for the RNS510 so you can call via the touch screen on the head unit. also viewing your phone book and other normal phone options through the head unit. it would be a waste to stick the premium kit onto a normal headunit.
the standard BT kit still is the best option as it is genuine and works well with all the steering wheel buttons.

i had the locally sourced one fitted originally and it kept cutting out and playing up. never had any problems with the factory kit since changing it over.

Premium bluetooth is not compatible with all Australian phones. Just go the cheaper bluetooth option that utilises the steering wheel control. Roughly $490 at dealers
