    Vinyl Roof Wrap in Canberra

Sorry if this is repeating other topics, did a bunch of searches and didn't come up with anything...

i'm wanting to get the roof of my golf wrapped in gloss black (the car is white and i'm not really interested in other colours...), but i'm having concerns about the heat and sun in canberra.... in summer, along with being incredibly sunny, we regularly get days over 40 degrees, sometimes over 45, and my car is parked outside all day while i'm at work (trying to garage it the rest of the time but not always possible...

is getting it wrapped in black a bad idea? i'm assuming it will shorten the lifespan of the vinyl as well.

    Cheers in advance!

They say that everything old becomes new again. But no way I thought that would apply to that classis 70s option, a vinyl roof. Maybe go all retro and get it in grained texture with a couple of 'Continental' badges as a finishing touch. Don't forget to watch out for rust under it in 10 years time though.

Most signwriters should be able to sort you out. Try Tony at Screenmakers in Queanbeyan.

Should look fantastic. Like, Man, Wow!
Contact Kevin Rudd re house insulation
OR, make a sandwich, eg, some of that reflective foil under the vinyl? (Just joking)
Seriously, I don't think rust will be a problem. And Canberra is rather far from the sea. But be careful re glue specification. Have you considered maintenance?
Re heat, how do all these cars with skylights make out? Red hot sticky leather upholstery?
Also vinyl will actually add a small layer of heat insulation in winter, although BLACK WILL offset reflective properties of white paint, the inherent thermal resistance of vinyl should compensate. (including white vinyl, vs black, as the heat reflective surface depends on the shiny paint.)
Providing you can leave tops of windows open a little, will make a big difference.

they shouldnt need to use glue with the current vinyl wraps available, they are applied much like tinting on the windows, squeegie to apply and then heat shrunk after the bubbles are all pushed out, heaps of clips on YouTube of company's in the US doing Matte Black on a number of exotics. Have a look at stickercity.com they have some good info on whats available.

As for the heat issue I've been doing some reading and this has been done in hotter tropic climates like Singapore and they do say that eventually it will bubble in the heat, not sure how long it takes though. Good thing with the new vinyl wraps is that if you get the craps with them they just pull off and if done correctly should cause no damage to your paint (something like within 4 years I think).

Good luck to you, and congrats on being different. A friend has a CW GTI with an OSIR CF bonnet, good look the panda look >D

Black Vinyl Roof + Sticker Mods make me a happy girl.

My door sill protectors. $10 from hongkong, w00t! did need more double sided tape than provided though...

My inside instrument stickers, making the car much more powerful and James-Bond-esque...

    My peeking pedo bear:

and last, but certainly not least!! My all new black vinyl wrapped roof

Makes the car feel like mine now, personalised... not just a bog standard golf. will need to get to a better vantage point to take a pic of the roof... need to get the ladder out i think

    Things remaining to do:
Golf floor mats (when i find nice ones which don't cost an arm and a leg...)
    APR stage one reflash
    new numberplate surrounds
and will hopefully be able to get a mate to turn on my instrument needle staging

No, neither did the oil one, as you can see cause it's wonky which is irritating me so much i may have to take it off and replace it with another one...
