You should have seen my wifes face as I marched out to the car with a powerdrill. Was priceless.

At least it wasn't your wife marching out to the car with a power drill!
I remember when I was a teenager, I used to live a few houses away from one of my school teachers (she was regarded as one of the cooler teachers, lol). Anyway... her husband came home with a brand new Jag. Apparently he didn't discuss it with her, because an argument broke out in front of the house, loud enough for my dad to come out to see what was going on... it then went in the house... next thing, she's storming out the front of the house with a big screw driver and a power drill, and starts attacking the car with both... class on Monday was interesting

I take it she wasn't helpfully helping out removing the OEM bracket carefully so he could install his Lakin brackets!

lol, at least he would have had plenty of options where to fit the lakin brackets. I can just imagine the look on your wifes face by the way!

hey guys, just bought some QLD euro plates for my gti which should be here in 2 weeks.. just wondering if the QLD ones are pre-drilled? or is it the same deal as NSW and VIC where there are no drill holes?

    cheers

Pretty sure the euros aren't pre-drilled in any state. My WA euros were not drilled.

yeah, they just stopped drilling them because too many idiots were buying them to fit to their Australia/Japanese/Korean cars, lol
Not that it makes any difference for the VW's since they've got not holes drilled either

Finally got around to taking a few pics of the Lakin brackets and covers that were installed on my GTI (full size Euros front + rear). They look quite good, the only negative I've found is that the covers tend to fog up (mostly during cold morning and nights) and stay like that for some time.

Philip sends them out with a seal on the inner side of the covers that adheres to your plates, however he leaves a section of approx 10cm seal-free. I've since resealed both covers entirely and it looks to have pretty much eliminated the problem. Still happens on occasion but clears quicker. I spoke to Philip and he said they do tend to fog up the first few weeks but after a while it just stops.

They look great mate! The front photo shows that even with a full-size Euro plate, these look numerous times better than the stock plate holder monstrosity!

MiiLos, looking sharp. Yet to hear anyone disappointed using the Lakin setup. By the way your whole car looks really sharp!!
