The sales guy and I did it while the car was sitting in the showroom at delivery hehe.

I didn't want them drilling any holes in the car as at the time I was thinking about the laiken plate holders and euro plates. But never bothered in the end.

Eh? I told them not to drill holes in car, hence plates weren't fitted yet when I rocked up to collect car. I brought double sided tape with me and we stuck them to the car at the same time as taking delivery.

ah ok, i understand now! They just stuck mine on i have no idea why. Guess they thought the plates I gave them to put on are expensive LOL
They could drill the **** out of it for all I care, as long as it is put on straight!

If the dealer screws on my euro's is it OK to retrofit with Lakins afterwards? If so, do any of you good folk with the facilities and knowhow near Sydney fancy doing it for me if I buy you lunch/crate of beer?

    Cheers!

There are no holes in the Euro plates. Therefore, if the dealer screws them on, they'll be deciding where those holes go. That's not likely to match up with where Lakin has them.

The situation on the rear bumper of the car maybe even worse. There aren't any holes in the bumper. So particularly if they screw the plates in on the corners, and they mounted it higher than you wanted, or lower (if they use 4 screws), then you could end up with visible holes. Or if you later change to a non-Euro rear plate you WILL have visible holes.

In other words... tell them not to fit them and rock up to the dealers with some good quality double sided tape!

oh god know, PLEASE DONT use industrial tape!

Seriously. This is what I've used.
    3M 4010 Mounting Tape
    It's 1" by 1.66 yards, or in our language, 25.4mm by 1.51m
    It's clear, and double sided.
Can't remember exactly how much it cost, but I got it from Bunnings for <$10 about 4 years ago.

I originally bought it when I wanted to mount my Roam Express tag, which I had painted anthracite to match the VW GTI/R interior, onto the windscreen using a clear tape (so the tag isn't noticable from the outside or the inside of the car).

On a full sized Euro plate, You will only need a 1" square of this tape in each of the 4 corners. I made sure that the tape extended BEYOND the edge of the metal plate so that when it was time to "pry" the plate off from the car, the metal edge wouldn't dig into the paint and mark it. Lucky I did this, because it wasn't "easy" to get the plate off. Had to pry one edge off carefully with my finger tips, and then kinda angle and pull the plate off. The rest of the tape which stayed on the car, just came off by me rolling my fingers over it.

Since then I've used it for heaps of things - mounting express tags, photo frames, 2.5" SSD's to the inside of computer cases which don't have convenient mount points for them etc. The stuff rocks. It's perfectly fine in direct sunlight even...

I just used some cheap **** from bunnings. It's fairly pissweak as I could peal the plates off without much effort, but strong enough that they haven't fallen off in 6mths if that makes sense?
