Thanks again for your post Corey.

Does anybody have a photo of the standard VW plate holder on Australian delivered cars? I just went back through this thread and also some research on Google, and everyone says the VW plate holder is such a disappointment.

Every single photo of the GTI/GTI/R where someone hasn't take it off has it!

And yes... it's curved, so plastic covers don't fit properly (like the last photo).
And yes... on the R, it's blocking part of the air-intake infront of your radiator and intercooler. On the GTI and GTD, it sits in front of a "blocked off" portion of grill, but the R's grill is open behind the plate holder.

Will Euro plates mount fine without the front numberplate holder?

There's a MK6 GTI that I'm looking at which didn't come with the standard numberplate holder on the front bumper. Will a standard euro-style plate affix without any issues?

Well, does it have any holder at all? How was the existing plate attached? Are there holes in the bumper? Without any other mounting point, you'd need to drill holes and affix a Euro plate directly into the bumper. This would be very bad if you ever want to revert to a smaller plate, as said holes would likely then be exposed.

To avoid this problem with my euro plates, i just drilled the holes to affix it closer in from the corners so as to match the holes on normal state plates and just used double sided tape on the ends to hold it flat.

In SA, most of our plates come with pre-drilled holes located at the extremities.

Having said that, I can't confirm that's the case on the Euro-style plates, as I haven't looked closely.

6 months on, my "temp" double sided tape solution is still holding strong. They lift up a bit when I'm using the gerni though lol

Am almost positive Euro's are the only exception and are not pre-drilled.
