If yes, can you please explain in detail how you had done so (and I am not referring to removing the bumper, UNLESS its a simple thing to do)?

    TQ in advance!!!
Yes mate, stuck a spoon through the grille to collect them. Got 3 outta 4 which was good enough to cover the visble ones...on the carbon steel the plugs are barely noticeable

I'm starting to worry right now, I've got from my Victorian rego plates from my previous car. They are the custom ones without a slimline option. I handed that over to my dealer 2 weeks ago, although they havent said anything, I wonder how are they going to mount this onto the front bumper.

They'll just screw it into the ugly plastic holder that comes on the car...
hopefully they don't drill any new holes into the plate...

Am going to order some more plate covers from Lakin Plates, am pretty sure at one stage Phil was offering a discount to forum members. Is this still available and if so is there a discount code or something?

I know this isn't a hot topic at the moment but just wanted to mention I have ordered Lakin brackets and covers yesterday. Phil was fantastic to deal with. Even answered my e-mail at 2am, that's some crazy hours he is putting in!! Due to having 5 digit slimline plate at the front, I have ordered 4 X 8mm OE scrivets to fill the holes left after OE plate bracket is removed. I will colour code the scrivets of course.

Hey guys, I'm in QLD and was going to order the 3 letter, 3 number Euro Navy plates from Personalised Plates Queensland | PPQ.COM.AU (the reason for this is I'm rolling over my current 3 number, 3 letter combo to a euro style plate).

The choices I have for size (back/front) are:
    520mm x 112mm + 520mm x 112mm
    or...
    520mm x 112mm + 370mm + 100mm (slimline)

Basically, I don't care if the front is slimline or not, I just want the best fitting plate. Does anybody have experience with fitting either sized plate to the front/back of the MK6? I'm assuming all Golfs VI's are the same when fitting a plate. I can't imagine there being any difference between a Golf R vs say a TDI or whatever.

The full sized one (520x112) without a cover is the closest to fitting the stupid number plate holder on the front. It overhangs the bottom a fraction, but then the bottom doesn't have the "frame" around it, so it's fine.

If you were to go the slimline on the front, you'll either have it drowing in the stupid holder, or need to look at something like the Lakin Plate Holders (and covers). This is the option that I went with. You can see my photos here.

Oh, and there is definitely a differences between the standard Golf's and the GTI/GTD/R. The standard Golf's have no front plate holder, just a slight recess in the front bumper.
