Do we have any R owners with the lakin plate holders yet? His site only has photos of the stock holder.
My car will come with normal slim lines but as soon as I can come up with something decent to spend $700 on for black euro's I will be doing that. Guessing I have to choose the right plate holder from day 1, though main concern is to make sure they don't put any extra holes in the bar fitting the slimlines on delivery.
I have both the front and rear Lakin Plate Bracket and Covers for my R. Just gotta wait to receive the R
And yes... just make sure they don't put any holes in your car! Ask them to fit the plates with doublesided tape or something if you are going to change later!
Yep!
You'll need to drill your own holes for the rear bracket as the Golf doesn't have any by default. However, the advantage of the Lakin Bracket at the rear is that the holes are "central" so that if the next owner (or even yourself) changes to a different style of plate, the holes still won't be visible as they'll be covered by even an old fashion plate.
I'll see if I can take some tonight
If Corey_R doesnt come up with any I can take some photos for you as I too have the front & rear brackets from Phil @ Lakin. I'm waiting of my R too .... Impatiantly!
The front has 4 counter sunk holes that align with OEM bracket with the holder attaching too it. If I ever sell tha care without the prestige plates I have I can re-fit the OEM bracket & no additional holes in the bodywork (bumper).

Good point! Make sure that you "rescue" the pins that get pushed into the bumper during the removal of the OEM holder. Other people haven't bothered as they fall into the engine bay area and you can't get your hand in their because of the "skid pan" (plastic cover) at the bottom.
