Just noticed the custom plates price hike in WA effective July 2010. Mine increased by $30, fortunately ordered it back in March when I ordered my car. Don't know about other states.

I noticed WA's price rises when I was updating the pricing spreadsheet for the GTI and the R after July 1st, but I didn't notice any other significant plate prices changes in other states. Mine you, each of the states and territories prices their rego/plates/stampduty/insurance separately and via different bodies, so uniform changes are not common.

I just got off the phone to Phil from Lakin plates (what an incredibly helpful guy by the way) as i had a question regarding plate covers for standard size Euro plates.

My concern was with the curvature of the plate holder that the plate and cover would leave a noticeable gap at either ends where they come away from the holder due to the plastic plate cover not bending. Phil has assured me that the plate cover is quite flexible and if affixed properly will curve with the plate sufficiently as to not stick out from the holder.

I'll be ordering a set along with my plates later this week.

So Prodigy are you taking the OEM number plate bracket off or will you fit the plates on the OEM brackets and the cover on top?

I'm going to stick with the OEM bracket, i can't really see a point in changing it as it will be fully covered by the plate and the plate cover itself is only 10mm thick so shouldn't look too chunky.

Just sent Phil an email regarding OEM bracket or other .... Not sure which way to go tbh .... Whichever way I go it'll be with Lakin brackets & covers!

It's all starting to get 'real' now I'm starting to get serious about ordering the plate covers ... All I need now is Dermot to confirm me mota is on a vessel & I can re-start me countdown!!!

Have you put your vin# in the tracker yet to see if it's been allocated a ship?

Phil was brilliant, i emailed him my enquiry and within a couple of hours he phoned me.

Yeah a couple of days ago ... Dermot advised circa 20th Oct for embarkation ... Havent checked since tbh!!
Yeah Phil's spot on - I've bought about 4 sets of brackets & covers from him in the past couple of years... Nothing is too much hassle for him. He even took a trip to Launceston (?) to check out a new Z4 & the R for me.

    Edit: No records found
