Yeah, gotta say, I think the plod would overlook most other things (tint, noise, etc) but a custom plate would probably get you pulled over in a heartbeat.

It wont look any different just different material .... Judging by the fines thought I might reconsider .... I'll see if I can find out how much jail time I'll do for having 'dodgy' plates & the Delonix PRS3/2STi system fitted ;o)

No one has put a full-sized Euro plate on the front using a Lakin plate holder yet.
This post has the full size NSW white Euro on the stock holder. It has had the plate 'molded' to the curve of the stock holder by securing the plate to the holder with screws in each top corner. The curve is too great to put a cover on it though. I've seen a few people leave the plate "flat" and try and put a cover on, but it looks ridiculous.

AdamD has a great post with some good pictures of the Lakin slimline front plate holder, and moonblade87 has a post with the NSW black slim front Euro and full sized rear Euro with Lakin holders.

Lakin can make the front bracket in a size to suit the full sized Euro, but thus far there have been no pictures of it that I've seen.... I'd love to see it though, I think it'd look so much better than the stock holder!

In QLD you can get the Euro plates for $595 (eek!) and they're available in 520x112mm front and rear, 520x112mm rear and 372x100 front, and even 372x100mm front and rear.
The QLD slim size is actually larger than the slim size for other states - 372x84mm. Thankfully Lakin can make brackets to suit any size!

On the GTI, if you order a "slim" front plate, then you'll have a single screw visible each side of the plate (as AdamD and moonblade87's pictures). On the R you would have two screws visible each side (or maybe it could still be a single screw - ask Lakin plates when you call to order!).

The full size Euro does not have the issue of any visible screws, however, it's not available in all states and is not available in some styles in some states.

I have ordered the Lakin kit for full-sized euro QLD plates front and rear, replacing the OEM plastic front mount and with covers front and rear. I have the plates, the Lakin kit is in the post and my car is in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, due Brisbane 15 Oct, so I'll have it end-Oct. I'm getting a panel beater to fit the plates so the job is done properly (drilling holes in rear, mainly). The car is a CW GTD and I have the silver-ended euro style plates, which have a black background with white letters. If you can hold your breath, I'll post pics in about 6 weeks.

Right, so im looking at the QLD classic Euro plate, which is 520x112. What is this larkin plate holder all about??

If I order the Euro 520x112 will this not fit nicely onto my Golf R?? Im buying the car in NSW so I will need to fit the plates my self, is this not an easy job or something??

If you are getting the standard size Euro then there is no need to get a Lakin plate holder, especially on the front as the plate will cover the whole plate holder. It's really only beneficial if you are going baby/slim size euro or if you are wanting to put on a plate cover on due to the slight curvature of the standard holder.

yes Prodigy true, however the OEM plastic adapter seems too bulky for my liking and I would personally prefer to remove it and replace it with the Lakin plate holder....(slimmer and neater)
for those that dont mind the OEM adapter with standard euro plates, ok.. but i recently saw a gti with the standard euro plates front and rear it looked ok but heavy with such a large plate..
