Lol, I've figured it out, first letter would definitely be the same as mine but the rest would be different.

Yep, getting mine from Dermot, are you getting Wangara to fit the plates for you? Also did you end up hearing back from Lakin Plates?

Hey congrats on the R mate, I'm also getting mine from Dermot, probably around the same time as Prodigy!

Dermot doesn't know yet but yes I'll be 'asking' him to fit them for me....

Philip has indeed got back to me but Ive got plenty of time to wait so I'll see what he does for other people before making the final decision nearer the time....

I took Dermot's CW DSG for a spin the other week... I couldn't get the grin off my dial for days after!! It just makes the wait harder.

It sounds like you, myself & Shakey will be picking up at the same time ....

The CW demo is the one i test drove also.
Popped in to VW Wangara today to see if they had any official Golf R brochures and they now have a 3 door Rising Blue with 19's in the showroom. Looked very nice.

Seeing the Blue R today has basically helped me make up my mind to get the black prestige plates. I do like the Euro plates but keeping the black theme going at the front of the car makes it look a bit more aggressive in my opinion. Just a shame about that bloody plate holder being so wide.

AdamD's Lakin GTI Bracket - Photos

After three months, two brackets, an adapter, two plate covers, and a ton of screw and washer combos, I've finally got my front bracket sorted. Not that I'm fussy or anything.

Philip from Lakin Plates has been fantastic in making up the brackets and going way beyond my expectations to make sure I'm happy with the result. I can't recommend his business enough.

I personally think this is the best solution short of having the factory-drilled holes filled and painted, and having a bracket made that's sized to match your plate. I've not done that - yet - but am very happy with the look overall now.

Philip could do a bracket up that's the same dimensions as mine but without the visible screws and washers - so just attaching to the bumper via the inner lugs that are hidden behind the numberplate. If you were after the clean look without going to the trouble and expense of the bumper repair, that'd be a great option too.

EDIT: While the adapter that is fitted to the Golf R does differ to that of the GTI (the four screw holes are at the extremities of the adapter on the R), it should be possible to fit a bracket that's similar in physical dimensions and appearance to mine. As all the factory-drilled holes are beyond the coverage area of a premium plate, at least one screw/washer would need to be visible either side of the numberplate - as it is on my bracket.

Thanks heaps for posting photos man.

As for the R, whilst the holes are different, it shouldn't stop a plate cover in a very similar style to yours (maybe just a little wider).

So did Philip himself tell you that it wouldn't be possible on the R? Or did you come to the conclusion yourself (cause I really want to get them when I get my R!).
Btw, since your photos are so great, can you post some of your rear plates? I assume you also have the Lakin rear plate holder

So is the best size to order the euro slimline 320mm x 100mm front and rear for the golf R?? I'm looking at euro plates now but wanna make sure I get the right size... I've got a blue R and I'm looking at white background with black letters

I'm not sure I get the point, changing one oversized bracket for another? If the look is that much of an issue, surely the extra cost of full size euro plates would be a lot easier?

Dave one is a big plastic plate holder, the other is a gloss, smaller plate holder which covers the holes left by the OEM holder.

it's night and day as far as I am concerned. I've gotta get off my ass and get mine sorted - still got my plate cable tied to the grille.
