I just spoke to Phillip at Lakin he knew exactly what I was after and its a cheaper option that $400 to restyle my slim line plates to euro style. and It looks like a neat unit that they make.

In Victoria, Euro plates are available in black or white, dimensions are 520mm x 112mm.

or in mini euro which are 372mm x 100mm

But yeah - for every other state (well, the ones I care about), black Euro has a small plate at the front.

Anyway, the point is, and the annoying thing is, that the USA delivered cars DO NOT have this plate holder at the front. Just like on most MKV cars (as some MKVs did have the plate holder too), you can just mount the plate or a plate holder directly to the front bumper yourself - therefore regardless of the type of plate you've got, you'll have the best looking option. (and for many states in the USA, you don't even need a front plate, so you'll really have a great looking front).

The other thing is from a performance point of view - the additional airflow from not having the plate holder blocking part of the grill can be important in keeping those intercooler temps as low as possible.

Thumbs up Lakin Plates - Highly Recommended

    I have to echo Gee-Eye-Drew's & mrj571's comments.

We rang Philip @ Lakin Plates about 6pm yesterday arvo (Friday) to enquire about brackets from my housemate's Jeep.
As everyone has said that Philip is excellent to deal with and more than willing to go out of his way to help with our enquiries, even though it was after beer o'clock.

I also asked about the GTI, and end up placing an order to kit out both Front & Rear bars, and Philip knew exactly what I needed after telling him what type of plates I was getting and wanting to cover up those nasty holes on the front of the GTI.
The Jeep is also getting a set.

    Good on ya Philip.

So, a big thumbs up to Lakin Plates.

I've been dealing with Philip for front and rear plate brackets for my GTI (and possibly for my dad's CC also), and he's been extremely helpful and professional. Great to deal with, and highly recommended - I can't wait to check out the product!

I received my plate brackets and cover from Lakin just this weekend....All I need now is for the GTI to turn up.

The front bracket looks as though it will cover the whole front hiding those ugly bolts that can be seen in the pics ^^

I can't find a picture of a GTI without a plate on the rear bar to see if screw holes come "standard" from the factory, like the pic on the lakin plates website.
If anyone can help out .... (or I might have to go to the dealer on the weekend)
