Thanks for posting those dencar, looks great, i've recently received my plate covers from Lakin and was going to retain the OEM plate holder but looking at those pics i may opt for the Lakin bracket instead.

On another note, anyone know how to remove the plugs for the plate holder on the R? Are they the same as the GTI?

Do they have a small round stud/pin in the centre of the plug? If so, they should be the same - push the pin (in toward the bumper) with a small nail or screwdriver, until it falls through and releases (contracts) the plug.

The picture is way too blurry to tell if it has the centre pins or not....
I wouldn't stress about it too much Prodigy. It can't be that hard

Just pinched this off another forum, this guy has just just picked up his new R in Switzerland, look at the nice small front plate holder they get.

That's no numberplate holder. It's just the same as the USA Golf's, no from numberplate provision at all. Then you if your country/state needs a front numberplate, you can just put it on yourself. To me, it looks like they're just wacked it straigh onto the bumper, and they have a "dealers name" frame on it.

IIve got black Victorian Euro plates ready to go on my car when it arrives. With that Ive got a pair of Lakin plate covers which are going to be fitted ontop of the OEM plate holder.
What is your issue with the OEM plate holder? I think it works well if you have Euro plates fitted.
