    Battery - "wrapped"

    Hi

just noticed that the battery in my engine compartment appears to be 'wrapped' in some form of thin black insulating material with a fold over flap even covering he top of the battery. Is that normal? Never seen that in any of my other cars. Weird?

Normal feature for the battery to sit inside this enclosure.

Once again it is a sign of VW thorough engineering, protecting it from dust, heat and other environmental nasties. Must also be a European thing as I remember my Peugeot 306 GTi6 having one as well (but far less well executed!).

I was always under the impression it was insulation for the battery. In hotter climates like outs protects the battery from the heat but if your were in the depths of a german winter it would probably help stop the battery freezing.
