You're missing the point. I didn't say that the Phaeton owner should get treated differently to the Golf owner which is what you're alluding to.

You can't expect the refinement that that you get in a Volkswagen Phaeton in a Volkswagen Golf but this is what some unreasonable owners expect. The Golf is the second cheapest car that VW sell, it ranges in price from $25K to $70K BUT the core of the car (dash, doors, floor, panels, ceiling and so on) is the same in the $25K Golf as in the $70K Golf R. Expectations that the $50K GTI or the $70K R are magically going to be different are ridiculous.

I only have some minor rattles from the door trims to which I believe is from the dealer not putting them back properly after doing my window tints. The overall quality of the cabin is excellent though.

But if Julia gets up, you'll be able take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers with your Mark V and get into a newer model anyway. I'll be joining you if the airbag light comes on for the 4th time in my Mark V.

Add me to the list of Mark 6 owners with nothing to complain about.

Wouldn't mind the new R actually esp Stg 1 tuned and flapper modded (I could forgive the looks and Nipponesee interior for the lift in performance). WRT MkVI GTI - no soul IMO -sorry but no thanks.

Nothing to complain with two MkVs esp wrt to rattles - I really don't know what all the fuss is about. And one of them has already done over 31K kms.

Maverick, YES we get that the core of the car comes from VW's second cheapest car 'the 25k golf'... but whether one pays 70k or 25k FOR A BRAND NEW VEHECILE, NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT TO LIVE WITH AN ANNOYING CREAKING AND TICKING SOUND IN THEIR CAR, WHILST DRIVING! So for you to say that GTi owners are expecting too much is a load of sh*t mate. My uncle has recently purchased a 2010 77tdi at 27k, also now experiencing creaking sounds, he too did not EXPECT for a brand new vehicle to have this sort of issue…

I can understand that there can always be minor 'defects' (if you could call it that) but if there is a problem with a brand new car; quite simply it needs to be rectified - what ever the purchase price.

    End of story...

And where did I say that they should live with a creaking or ticking sound in their car? That's right I never said that.

So for you to say that GTi owners are expecting too much is a load of sh*t mate.
And I didn't say that either, perhaps you should try reading before wading in and making accusations. What I did say in response to gtimal's claim that he expected the GTI to be much better then the standard Golf and that he expected the GTI to have no noises is clear in this post here.

Well he should lower his unrealistic expectations, seems that everyone expects a Lexus for the price of a Hyundai nowadays. Maybe if the car had ongoing mechanical issues and was leaving him stranded he would have a valid complaint but not for a minor creaking sound from the door seals.

And where has Volkswagen not rectified any valid warranty claims? And where has anyone said that warranty claims shouldn't be considered on cheap cars?

    End of story...
Perhaps you should start at the START of the THREAD and read through the posts before you declare this the end.

dloratet, please read through the thread carefully and try not to pick fights with others as only your 3rd post here.

There are two issues in this thread. One is a "clicking" or "ticking" sound from the trim on the B Pillar. There are instructions in the thread on how to resolve that yourself, however it revolves removing the trim on your car, so it is best to return to the dealer to have this done as it is a warranty issue and thusfar there has been no reports of dealers not helping to resolve this.

The second issue is the "creaking" or "squeaking" of the door seals. If you had read through the thread you would see that Maverick was the person to supply the solutions for this. Chose carefully the product that you wash your car with. Do not use wax in the door seals area. And to resolve the noise quickly, the use of Krytox can help.

Both of my VW's have come from the dealers as "near new" purchases and had this door seal issue. Personally I've found that using a car wash such as Meguiars Gold Class to wash the car with, and then using a good quality 'spare' chamois to then clean the door jam areas (and wipe over the seals too) is enough to make this problem disappear forever after a few months where the car is regularly washed..... just remember to not use wax products on this area!

sorry Mav, your posts are usually decent, but this comment is utter BS. no one in the world who is purchasing a new car, cheap or expensive, is expecting it to make odd creaks and noises like a 90 year old house. Unrealistic expectations? I`m expecting to buy a car that doesn`t make weird sounds...how is that unrealistic?

I`m not arguing the fact that they are going to happen, as they are, on any car...I`m arguing with the comments you make, saying they are unrealistic.

they may be unrealistic to you, but not to 80% of the consumer world...at times I think you have such a grim outlook on life...I`ve read most of your posts, and am still trying to find one that has a happy tone to it...get over yourself.

Buying a car and expecting it to have ZERO noises IS unrealistic. All cars have problems, all cars have rattles, all cars have squeaks and all cars have creaks but to varying degrees.

I`m not arguing the fact that they are going to happen, as they are, on any car...I`m arguing with the comments you make, saying they are unrealistic.
?? You're saying that the noises are going to happen on any car? Which is what I've been saying but you then say that you disagree with my comment that it's unrealistic to expect a car to have zero noises??????????

Excuse me for saying how it is, too many people have unrealistic expectations and expect everything for nothing. Look at all the complaints in this forum about the most ridiculous things, how everyone expects the dealers to bend over backwards as if they're the only customer they have, how they expect the dealer service staff to fix a problem when the customer can't even take the time to demonstrate or clearly explain it or how they expect a $25K car to be 100% noise free or worse expect their $50K car (which is the $25K car with sports suspension and 18" wheels) to make no noises or rattles when driving above third world country roads.

ps. this may lighten the tone of the post......
