Could be. Tonight it sounded a bit like it might be the parcel shelf device against the rear seats, or even the seats themselve. Don't know, but will keep tooking.

Hi,
I was wondering what people's experiences were with the leather interior (not the Recaros) in the R.
Personally I find it very squeaky over bumps, going in and out of driveways, reversing... you can always hear the leather as if its rubbing against something (with the only the driver in the car).
I can also be borderline OCD when it comes to car interior noises and I seem to be noticing more and more in the R... The car is only 4 months old![]()

i believe the leather used in the R would be same as those used on the rest of the golf range. i got a 118TSI and the leather seems fine to me. believe me, i'm also borderline OCD with interior noises.
i'm guessing what you hear is not the leather squeaking but perhaps the felt/rubber trim on the door when the car flexes
Are you sure it's the leather you're hearing? Or the door seal rubber?
The only reason the leather would squeak is if you're moving around in the seats. Unless you're entering driveways at 80km/h, I don't see how you'd be moving around enough to cause squeaks.
I too don't have any issue.
But if you seriously had squeaks coming from the leather, then I would say that someone has cleaned it with something inappropriate, and you should probably look at purchasing a good leather cleaner and conditioner.
Also, what material is your pants and shirt made from? hehe
But whilst I'd recommend you get the leather cleaner and conditioner anyway as you should do that process at least once every 6 months(nothing fancy, just some Duragloss Leather Shampoo and Duragloss Leather Condition), I feel the problem you're experiencing is way more likely to be the door rubber seals. So in that case, check out this thread.
I was getting squeaks from the driver leather seat in my Bora and found that it was caused by the seat belt stalk rubbing against the edge of the seat, moved it away a notch and all good.

In mine, the side supports have slightly flared and it is rubbing on the centre console. Big guy owned it before me (I can only assume anyway). Shouldn't be doing it in an R though. Maybe you need to upgrade to the recaro's and see if that fixes the problem![]()

Since somewhere during the MKV Golf/Jetta lifecycle, Volkswagen changed the side of the centre-side seat bolsters (i.e. the surface which rubs against the centre console and seatbelt receptacle) from leather to material, so you can no longer get those squeaks from the leather rubbing on the plastic of the centre console or seatbelt.
Edit: Being that 99_FGT just posted whilst I was typing, it would seem that the change would have been since the MY08 models.
In any case, the problem that 99_FGT and maxrob200 mention is not possible on the MK6 cars.

tried this and it works a treat. it is, of course, provided that the seals are causing the sounds. if you cant pinpoint where exactly the squeaks are coming from, it wouldnt hurt to try this. i got my felt tape from the dealer for ~$30 though. i'm sure you can find a cheaper alternative at a local DIY store.
