A big issue with rattles is how they were dealt with.
They are the most frustrating thing.

My previous Jetta had some, and I had a falling out with my dealer,as they could not get them sotred out,and were very cocky about the whole thing.
I almost traded it in at that stage on a Corolla Ultima, thank God I did not.

I changed dealerships,to another who was far more sympathetic, and eventually got them sorted out.

When my Jetta was written off,did I want to spend days and months sorting out rattles on another Jetta or Golf ???
    Not really.

So I bought a Honda Euro, which VERY suprisingly came with 2 rattles.
But the diffirence is they were attended to immediatly, very seriously, and fixed completely.

I am not sure if I will buy a new Jetta next year,it depends a lot on whether the new ones are going to rattle or not.

I might be buying Euros for the next few years, the quality is just superb.

It's getting to the point where i don't think it's worth buying brand new VW's as you'll always be annoyed with the rattles and the build quality still isn't good enough. At least if you bought a second hand one you wouldn't expect it to be perfect.

    Sad but true.
In my case, after lots of effort, the rattles in nmy Jetta were all ironed out.

This was my 4th new VW,NEVER had any such issues before.

It was my first one in Australia, and in 1 e mail,an employee in Sydney told me in a threatening way that VW does not have to even try to fix rattles, squeeks, creaks, and vibrations.

Whilst looking for a replacement for my very much loved Jetta,I remembered this at the back of my mind, and was more keen on trying out Honda,Mazda,or Toyota.

I am sure I am not the only one who was disapointed, and cheesed off by the way VW dealt with it...........

Hey guys, here is your fix, just take it to the dealer or DIY, simple.

    Just kidding of course.

Should the door and tailgate seals be 'lubricated' at a regular VW service ?

Mine just had its 2 year service last week, in which I asked them to realign the 2 doors which were badly aligned.

However the rubber squeaking came back worse!

Thanks for that. I don't think VW would be game enough to re-create an ad like that today ...

However, I must say my dealer is very good, and has been very patient when it comes to finding abnormal noises in my last 4 new VWs.

It has been my persistence, though, to find the source of some rattles and creaks that might have been otherwise superficial including:

    1. A rattle in the front end of my MKV was not any old rattle - it was the DSG and was replaced by VW under warranty even though it was just outside warranty.
    2. A rattle in the B pillar of my old New Beetle was not any old rattle - welding had broken and required sending off to the panel shop for repair - all covered by VW warranty

I have never had any problems with VW Australia in honouring any repairs that have been needed. And the dealer has been very supportive in always going the extra mile to help on a couple of occasions.

While I'm at it ... I didn't have the benefit of this forum back then so I find useful commentary on this forum very helpful.

Thank you to all that make positive comments

Yes, it takes a lot of effort sometimes to find the source of the noise (squeak). It's shame that not every dealer spend time finding it.
You certainly wouldn't expect it from the car of the year.

I can feel your frustration guys, I hope you didn't take that ad in wrong way.

ya still clicks every now and then too mate...but it's alot better than it was

I don't think they adjusted my striker plates...they just lubricated it. Since it's just a lubricant they've applied, I'm assuming it's a temporary fix until they have a real one? If they're working on a real one. That lubricant isn't going to last forever
