No... that's the thing. Jap cars (typically) don't get built to order. They just have so little option combinations from the factory that 99% of the time they can fulfil the order with stock which is already in the country, or is on the way.
Take the Civic Type R for example. 4 colours, no factory options, and then a bunch of dealer fit accessories, which means they only have 4 cars to stock. Or Mazda 3 MPS. 4 colours and two spec levels for 8 combinations to stock. Completely different world to the Golf GTI which I calculate has 1,920 combinations after excluding factory options which the dealers _could_ do themselves if they really had to. Or 122,880 combinations including all factory options.
