    Age of R Drivers

I am 48 and love performance cars like I have ever since i got my licence....the only difference is that now I can afford them (within limits of course). The bug for performance has not gone away like it seems to have done with my friends and even my brother who used to be a speed freak. They all drive like old men now.

This lead me to wonder I was wondering what the average age of R drivers is ....or will be when their car arrives. Are the majority of owners younger or are there still some old performance fossils still out there.

Complete the poll and we will find out.

I am with you.. bout to hit 44 and always loved the idea of a performance vehicle however cost , insurance etc etc have made it low on the priority list.. now the kids are at a better age, the house is out of the way it is me time.

I also believe the R is targeting this age bracket because of those factors and kudos for doing so.. that being said I anticipate that many respondents will be in their late 20s early 30s

You should add another category: Under 30 and still living with parents

I'm 38 and always been a fan of performance cars, having previously owned two Subaru WRX's i thought it was time to get a 'grown up' sports car hence the move to an R.

I've just clicked over 39 and like Prodigy have also liked performance cars too, currently have a Mazda 6 MPS and wanted a AWD Turbo to replace it and the Golf R ticked all the boxes, though I probably couldn't have afforded it (or it's equivalent) when I was in my 20's

I think for the majority of people if ur under 30 and can afford a golf R, you dont own/on your way to owning, your own home, or your living with your parents... or u were born with a silver spoon.... or working for a mining company earnign a couple hundred a year..... or your really really really into cars and spend all your excess dollars on them (and are severely malnutritioned as a result )

id say most buyers will be over 37/38....

i own a GTI MY11 and am 28, couldnt justify an R however now that i know more about them (and love my GTI) may start thinking about an upgrade as my next car...... i may become malnutritioned

ah thats true, didnt think of the business/tax situation.... ill add that to my list of assumptions

(i enjoy making assumptions on this forum because someone will always disagree - love it!! lesson learnt; its in my opinion only, it doesnt make it right i know but its still ok to talk about it - could even spark a good philosophical blog, you never know)

25 here. I'm a builder and project manager whose worked pretty hard to get the things I want since I was 16. I'm always sore, always tired, always pushing to get the next frame or fix or lockup done before the next progress payment. I don't drink, don't smoke, and don't do drugs and rarely go out partying, and I damn well think I deserve to spend $59k on myself if I can't have any other vices, without like minded enthusiasts assuming I was born with my hand in the money pot.

Here I was thinking a Golf was an unpretentious euro.
