Easy answer, just buy the stock one.


You don't need the upsized wheels, they are aesthetic.
Aftermarket wheels can be purchased later and there are tonnes of 5x112 wheels available.

ACC isn't really necessary, just a fancy suspension/damper control which you will rarely use.
You can purchase an aftermarket coilover system which will do the same thing with a little more effort.

Bi-Xenon's are nice but the stock housings with uprated bulbs are just as good imho.
Not really possible to retrofit unless you are willing to pay about 3x the original price.

Park assist is a gimick that hardly anyone uses.
Not sure if it can be retrofitted.

RVC isn't necessary and can be retrofitted apparently.

Electric adjustment isn't needed, how often will someone else be driving your car?
Don't think it can be retrofitted.

MDI isn't needed, just use a SD card.
Can be retrofitted though and is cheaper form ebay uk.

Bluetooth can be purchased aftermarket at a cheaper price most of the time.

RNS510 can be sourced form ebay uk for AU$1150 landed.

Bro, You sound like your saying that NONE of the options are necessary or needed or helpful. You also sound like your saying this like you cant afford them and telling other people not to get hem coz you dont want to look like a fool...And how can Halogens be "as good" as Xenons? What have you been sniffing? And all this aftermarket retro fitting crap, dont you think its much much MUCH easier and more original if you just buy from the VW options list? No? Yes? WELL i think it is, and buying cheap products and parts for a GTI isnt a good look, unless its a visual upgrade or performance, other than that, no, its g*y tbh

Dynaudio even the dealer said is a complete waste of money. The stock stereo is not too bad if want to improve on it probably better more cost effective ways.

waste of money if you only listen to AM radio, yes. If you like your music, it's an absolute bargain. Doesn't quite match the aftermarket stereo I put in my other car, but it's not far off in terms of audio quality, cost nowhere near as much and not a single door panel had to be removed, no custom mounts, wiring, or dynamat. It just sounds awesome from day 1 with zero effort and only a thousand bucks. I've heard the stock stereo on a mk5...

In response to the OP, I don't think there are many options you could reasonably add after delivery. Stereo and wheels are the obvious ones that can wait if necessary. RVC is cheap and I don't think there's any reason you wouldn't get it, I didn't think I'd use it I only got it cause my girlfriend reversed into the bin twice in her last car, but I've found myself using it and it works very well.

Xenons, not fussed. The standard headlights are fine and I think the xenons make the car look like a dead bird with its eyes eaten out. If you must have, get them upfront cause it will be $ to add later.

If I was going to change anything about the car I ordered, I think I'd get the ACC. The ride is FIRM, I wouldn't mind a comfort setting for the commute!

Power driver's seat, with no memory option it's completely pointless.

MDI, just get it, girlfriend has iPod, I have SD card, we're both happy.

Bluetooth is excellent for $500, just get it.

Basically RVC, Bluetooth and MDI will be a fraction over $1000 together, if you're cutting it that fine to get the car then you don't really have an option, but otherwise just stretch to get them. Or bargain down a little further. They would be my first options before adding wheels etc.

Oh and sat nav, I heard it's not the best in terms of UI and I'm sure the map upgrades are ridiculously priced. The option itself is too expensive in my opinion, as people have mentioned you can buy it aftermarket but i'm not sure I'd even do that...

For all intents and purposes the Bi-Xenon headlights cannot be retrofitted, so if you want them, make sure they're factory-fitted, full stop. The R comes with them as standard so no dramas there.

As an aside swayman, I assume you're asking this question because you're considering a car from dealer stock and aren't sure whether to wait for a factory build to your specs?

I've been on a little ebay adventure and i've seen alot of parts for the mk6 that my 2010 tdi trendline wagon doesn't have.

how many of the optional extra's can be added after the car has been made? and how easy are some?

i've been looking at the aux/usb input to the radio. and maybe bluetooth handsfree? but would that involve adding something to the car's ecu/computer system?

Bluetooth is a common addition for guys on here to add to their cars. Personally i purchased a 2010 Mk6 Golf GTI without Bluetooth and purchased a 9wZ Bluetooth (the premium version - as their is a cheaper basic Bluetooth unit as well) kit from a Sydney seller on ebay.

As long as you are somewhat handy and have some VW specific tools (torx bits and triple square bits etc) you can self-install the Bluetooth kit in under an hour. I unbolted my drivers seat (not necessary but i took the opportunity to give it all a good vacuum) to mount the Bluetooth module underneath on the carpet, then you run the wiring through the holes in the carpet up along the center console and up behind the radio. Remove the radio temporarily to plug in the loom. Then you have to run the microphone up the A pillar, under the roof lining and into the area where your interior lights are. There is a spot in there where the microphone goes.

All done in under an hour, all nice and neat (no wires visible etc and no hacking of wires) and worked perfectly.

The more advanced guys have done such things like retrofitting the reverse camera, and the xenon headlights too.
