Tyre pressures could be the major contributing factor.

AFAIK the basic geometry of the suspension is shared between the two, and it's just percentages of adjustment that separate them. Remember also that the R weighs ove 100KG more than the GTI, and this may contribute to settling the car over small undulations.

I've driven GTIs on 17s without ACC, and an R on 19s with ACC. Obviously these can't be compared, but the R still rode better overall.

I'm about to put 18s on my non-ACC GTI, with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyres... hope it's not too firm!

I respect your view but I find the GTI 'soft' compared to my previous car (05 Cooper S). I regret not getting the Detroits for looks but am happy enough with the ride of the 17s. Also with regards to 'looks' I would never buy an ' R' on looks alone. They are ugly! IMHO

Dealer Fit or New Build? Golf R

    Hey Guys,

Just wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction. As I'm looking at an R, I want to know what options can be installed by the dealer and what has to be installed at the initial build?

    Thanks!

I just got my GTI last week - I ordered it with MDI and BT factory installed and it turned up with neither. The dealer says he can install the genuine articles at its first service so I guess there are two. Add bigger rims (19s).

What I know cannot be installed...

    ACC
    RVC
    Leather
    Electric seats
    Sunroof
    Dynaudio
    Park assist

i was initially looking at a demo, without a few options, but it was going to cost me a lot more to get part of the options i wanted dealer fit. so ive decided to go for a forward order. gives me more time to get cash together to lower my finance repayments too.

it all depends what you want.

if it helps, i went through barloworld mascot. adrian (the guy i dealt with) is unfortunately leaving, which is a shame, but they are very helpful.

I've retrofitted the RNS510, Bluetooth, and MDI (MDI is functional but I'll admit it's not as flush as a factory install).
You usually need access to a VCDS cable to enable the new options once installed.
Some hae retro-fitted the RVC but as far as i can tell it's a much bigger project.

What options are you interested in?

errr... not by VW and not for $500 which is what it costs when spec'd at order time. $1800 was the best price I could get. Of course you can DIY but parts are still close to $1k.
