[QUOTE=pom829;530799]I was going to book my Mk 6 Golf TDI in for its 7500Km service today, and was informed by the service department (VW Osbourne Park WA) that the oil is not changed on the 7500Km service.

Reason stated by the service department is the oil that comes with the car is different to the oil used during a service so to replace the oil at 7500Km would make the warranty invalid! /QUOTE]

My 102TDI recently had its first service at 12 months — it hadn't reached 7500Km. The oil was changed to Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 synthetic ($62.70 + GST) and no one said anything about it invalidating the warranty (they seemed more interested in trying to sell me a set of wiper blades than anything else.)

    It better hadn't!

Less than 7500 in 12months? That diesel will last forever.
However, I understand that depending on type of motor, eg, petrol or diesel, this also affects reccommended life of oil.
Obviously also depends on oil specification.
Is there some form of catylitic change in oil as it adsorbes verious byproducts from combustion etc, which is time dependant?
Salesman told me one advantage of 118TSI was it required less frequent service than 103TDI (TDI every 10,000K?)
And for my 2002 Corolla, according to Toyota, oil must be changed every 10,000K or 6 months, whichever comes first.
