I spoke to VW Melville who told me 15,000km is their recommended first service interval. However, having checked the condition of the oil and having spoken to a Certified Master Mechanic (CMM), I've decided to get the oil and filters changed, the car is currently slightly over 8000km. The CMM conveniently has his premises on the same road where I work. I've seen the cars outside his workshop, Porches, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc. so his claim to specialise in European cars seems well-founded. One thing he told me that impressed me was that I should be using BP Ultimate diesel in the Golf. Of course, I knew this, but he was unaware that it's still not available in WA. He told me that the standard grade of diesel can be contaminated with algae, and that could possibly have a detrimental effect on the injectors.
