maybe/maybe not. A mate has a Yaris & it's on fixed price servicing for the next 3 years. $150 a go IIRC. So it works out about the same as my Skoda - but I don't think they do stuff like pollen filters or brake fluid flush. I drove it the other day - nice car but I don't think I'd like to be driving it 25,000km a year like I do with the Skoda.

Reason stated by the service department is the oil that comes with the car is different to the oil used during a service so to replace the oil at 7500Km would make the warranty invalid!

All they do is inspect and top up for $200, I can quiet easily do that myself.

Never heard this before, they just talked themselves out of a service.
How strange. I took my GTI in for a 7500km service a couple of months ago at John Hughes. They had no problem taking almost $400 off me for a (not sure how many point) check, oil change, wheel rotation and balance.

You WA boys sure like holding your ankles when you get a service! Highway Auto in Brisbane only charge ~$157 for an oil change (intermediate service) with the 15,000km/1 year service for $301 and the 30,000km/2 year for $481.

Any value in taking GTI in for 5k service ?

Has anybody had any experience or received feedback from others who have taken their Golf in for a 5k service ? Camberwell VW suggested that I take it in and there would be a charge of course, but then it seems to be subjective as the first actual service comes up at 10k. My better half purchased a Maxda cx9 for the clan and they offered a complimentary "run in service " at 1k just to check everything is in good order since purchase; which I think is a good service. Is this a waste of money for the GTI or worthwhile ?

Hi mate. I deleted one of your threads as a duplicate (you could have just edited it) and merged this one into this.

Also, a quick search on "service" would have bought up numerous results, including this thread.

To answer your question. There is ZERO value in doing a 5,000km service. You really need to read the manual - Golf's are not serviced in 10,000km/6 month intervals. They are serviced in 15,000km/12 month intervals. Comparisons to Mazda's are meaningless, since Mazda's are a very different product.

So then the discussion is it worthwhile taking your car in for a 7,500km/6 month service. Read back in this thread to get your answer.
The summary is though, that it is not required by Volkswagen or your warranty, though if you want to do it, it's up to you.

My 2c, My car is going in for its 15,000km first service in a few weeks. I am comfortable in the knowledge that the Oil hasn't been touched in 11 months. Might have considered an interim change if I knew what product went in at the factory and could replace it. No-one seems to know for sure if these engines ship with a run in oil or everyday oil. So there is a tenuous argument to say removing a run in oil early could have a negative effect. OTOH always a good idea to stick to manufacturers recommendations

Denlo Parramatta advise that the 7,500KM 'service' is optional and is not an actual service, just a check of oil and other levels. Cost is $99. Not likely to bother, because of the hassle and the fact that they're not likely to actually do anything. Can check the oil level on your own.

The salesman told me the 7500KM service was "a must"!

Have to drop the new car off to get some pre-delivery surface scratches buffed out of the bonnet (looks like someone used a crappy cloth to polish one area) and will ask him what they are going to do and wanting to charge me for it.

If they consider a 7500KM service "a must", that's fine, but you should need to pay for it, it should be complimentary. Check your manual - there is no 7500km service.
