    7 speed DSG service?

i just had my car repaired by barloworld mascot, and whilst there i was told my car needs a DSG service ( 118 tsi with 60k on it) by the service technician. i had the car serviced 2 weeks ago by an independant mechanic. the mechanic here says the 7 speed DSG doesnt need a service, and he did change the gear oil for it at the service.
so im not sure who is right, can anyone here clarify if the dsg needs a service? i was quoted 500 to have it done.
    thanks

The 7 spd gear oil is not scheduled, not even under harsh operating conditions (short trips, stationary city traffic etc.) ....... Oil and filter is only the 6 spd.

    VAG Maintenance Manual
Time or distance dependent additional work ........................... Interval

Dual clutch gearbox (DSG) 02E: Renew gear oil and filter .............. Every 60,000 km
    • Not valid for 7-speed dual clutch gearbox 0AM
And there is nothing specific in the Workshop Manual for extra scheduled activities on 7 spd..
Asking what they want to do won't cost you, then you can decide if you want to play with them.

A DSG software update perhaps (but that won't cost anything (substantial)), but if someone's trying to get you to pay for a DSG oil change for your 7-speed, kindly ask him to jump into the nearest lake.

Service book should be one of the first books in your "manual" folder thingo in the glovebox. Will have dealer stamps in it for services already completed.

Got the service book, no where does it mention...

    ???

Have confirmed with 2 dealers though, dsg service not required (at 60k at least)

Service book might be different for owners of the TDI and GTI, R, etc. The rest of my manual had generic instructions for other types of Golf's though (diesel warnings, etc).

The 7-speed DSG have no service schedule. The gear oil can be changed if you like, but the mechatronics oil has no set change period and the oil is not available as a spare part

I was in this position about a month ago. 2 dealers quoted me DSG Service for my 90TSI. Went to independent and who said it didn't need one. Pretty pathetic for the dealership service centres to not know that....

To change the fluid in the 7sp DSG you need only 1.7L Gear oil, the Penrite Manual Gear Oil70 is suitable, so it shouldn't be expensive. VW has a track record of whatever component they say it's filled for life (lifetime fill), the life of it is not very long. Most likely 5years/120,000km.

I'm from old school and change the oil in everything that has the drain plug on regular basis. The transmissions (incl. diffs) are run in between 10,000km - 20,000kmfrom new and require oil change regardless. But, if you keep your car for only for 3-5 years than do what is in the servicing schedule. Here is the link to service schedule in my post; http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...tml#post684429 to clear up some confusions.
