Golf R in UK is offered with the 6 Speed DSG only (350 Nm), which gives credence to the limits of the 7sp DSG's ability to handle more torque.
IT would seem VW claim that the 7 speed DSG (dry clutch) is capable of handling 250 Nm of torque:

Note that the APR and other chip upgrades claim an increase of torque to 317Nm. Forget the power increase because the torque max is found at ~2000-3800 RPM, which is in the range where you'll probably drive your car. Can any of the chip modifiers give any credence to the capability of the 7 spd dsg being able to handle the approx 33% increase in torque without detriment to the longevity of the gearbox?
Interesting to note that the previous 6 spd dsg (wet clutches) can handle 350 Nm of torque.
Look forward to anyone with chips done or chip modifiers please.

This topic has been done quite a few times since the 7 speed came out. You'll find quite a bit of info, including replies by the tuning companies, if you use the search function.
My take on the 7speed 250NM figure is that is an arbitrary number or rating that quite happily coincides with the maximum torque put out by the engines it is mated to.
The designed/engineering limit is much higher.
/reads link.... Nowhere in that article does it say that the gearbox is limited to 250Nm. What it does say is that the maximum torque put out by any of the engines it is mated to is 250Nm (confirms it 3 times in different ways).
new DSG for all TDI and TSI engines up to 250 NmThe new 7-speed DSG makes the revolutionary transmission technology available for smaller engines too, engines that develop up to 250 Newton-meter torque.250 Newton-meter is the maximum torque of engines that are paired with Volkswagen’s 7-speed DSG

Yep search of your friend.
... you will also find that the 250nm torque figure is there to ensure the dry clutches will not wear out or require a costly service during VWs theoretical life of the car. Nothing to do with the gear train not being able to cope with the extra torque.
