I had my 60,000km service done at Ramspeed @ Toongabbie very reasonable it was only about $500 with out DSG as I had only had the GB replaced at 40,000km

That's great to hear Ian. I've used Ramspeed for an pre-inspection on a previous model I was looking at before I just bought my current GTI. I had been dealing with one of the service mangers Dean. He was absolutely fantastic. Turned out unfortunately that the car I was looking at was a dud and I'm glad I spent the money to have the checks done (I new something seemed funny). I think I will be giving them a ring as I will be coming up for a 90,000kms service shortly.

I recently had the 60,000 service for my dsg GTI done at Ramspeed. Was quoted around $950. Rang me and suggested the coolant required changing which I okayed. Final cost $1089 including credit card surcharge which cheesed me off. I don't feel any better than if I'd have gone to a dealer to be honest. My previous service was at Strecker Autohaus and they charged $600 for 45,000 service. I've never had a 'cheap' service with this car.

Minor service should be under <$400. A $139 charge for changing the coolant is a massive joke.

Was the coolant change a full system flush out too?

Why?
I don't think it is, it takes a good hour with the flush, if done properly and the coolant concentrate is around $50 worth, then I always use distilled water even for the flushing and charge a similar amount, around $120.

That's a fair charge for 99.9% of my customers who drive European car, seek quality, reliability and are successful in what ever courier or job they pursue and for me it's a pleasure to deal with them.

However, I agree with you a major service is in low $300 for 4 cylinder car.

So, did you remove the thermostat or the heather hose to allow the flushing water circulate through whole cooling system long enough and stopped only when the water was running clean? Then, refit and refill, pressure test before and after and all of that in 1/2 hour or less? I don't think so. That's why I've said, when done properly.

Recently had the 60k service on my 2010 GTi. My dilemma was that ALL 3 close agents are owned by the same mob.
I went to the centre where I purchased (as I have for all services), dropped it off, then went and wandered the shopping centre across the road for several hours...I can really only handle so much browsing.....
Upon returning I was hit with a near $800 bill. I went off my nut.
The service manager kindly dropped 10% off for me, still, about $710 was painful enough.

That, and it could've been a whole lot more if you had a DSG.
