    Dealer Ransom -VAG Goodwill repairs

It is probably the only reason I keep making the illogical decision to pay around $150 per hour to have a first year apprentice mechanic servicing my cars. Last service (May 2011) my 18 month old CC (Nov 2009) with 298000km on the clock got a 45K service because "it was more than two years old and my car was a low mileage car and so was serviced on a time basis instead of distance. (Some difficult maths there working out the age of the car)

According to my handbooks the 30k and 45k services are different (30k a little more extensive including replacing fuel filter on turbo diesels). "Assured" by the service manager that the handbook was only a guide and that they had the latest bulletins from VW which did not require the fuel filter change at 30k.)

Being even more picky, they couldn't find the log books because they were not in the glovebox. Doh, pull down the leather tab.

When they finally found the books, filled in as next service 45000km or the date of the next service as "May 2011". And I thought time stood still for no one.

Actually extended warranty and a non dealer respected VW specialist might actually be a more efficient and cost effective way of achieving good service and peace of mind for any later expensive repairs.

On a positive note, in two and a half years of multiple VW ownership and 7 trips to the dealer for service or warranty issues, I can say that we have had ONE occasion that did not require a return visit or some follow up action.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

You have done 298000km in 18 months? That's almost non-stop driving!

Highly likely I got ripped off but then I didn't push the issue of pricing (am sure that I could have got it cheaper if I had of) - Wangara VW last month for the 15k service - $527.30 including a tyre rotation which was $110 (as part of the $527.30).
I like the service that I get from Tash but the main reason for going back was to have window tint fixed (In the end I had to go all the way back to Melville to have it all removed and re-done as that was where I bought the car.)
Will probably look somewhere cheaper for my 30k service though.

just wondering how many of you have taken your car back for a check up prior to 15000km?

I took my GTI in last week to have an oil top up after the light came on.
Its done around 3,500. The dealer service centre handled it with no issues or cost (as they should).
They're also going to install that clip for the rattle in GTI's, and didn't even drive the car to check if the noise was there.
They have been pretty good so far in my history with them (also took my old Polo GTI there for a warranty fix), but I have never actually used them for servicing, instead opting for a VW/Audi autorised mechanic just down the road from them.
