I know that I wanted paddle shifters which would pull towards the GTI but couldn't justify the price back in 2010. It's not really a pro for the 118 but worth knowing. The GTI is roughly $10,000 more than the 118 spec for spec and I definitely haven't spent anything close to that much making it more like a GTI.
The main things that would make me consider the GTI would have to be the more proven reliable engine, the exhaust burble, the XDL differential, and the fact that it would be even quicker again with a Stage 1 tune
if you buy the 118TSI, do not buy it unless it still has factory warranty left... Otherwise get the GTI for sure...
