Sorry mate, wasn't have a crack at you.
Yeah this is what I was getting at. Figured people read most threads in this sub forum and would get what I was aiming for. Lately every 2nd thread turns into a **** fight over why x y or z is better but instead of being discussions with merit they're really just everyone reassuring themselves over the last purchase.
All good Dave- I have since read through a bit of the stuff you and coreying are talking about... Messy stuff.
Anyone would think we were having a red hot ford v Holden battle!!!

I just bought a 118TSI.. haven't even driven or seen it yet... but I have to be honest, even though it's coming with a sports pack I don't think or expect it's a sports car..
In my opinion (and it might be just me) a GTi is borderline a sports car. A real sports car is something that is hard to live with, hard to drive.. something you have to be on the ball with while you are driving.. difficult to get in and out of... brakes that don't work unless they are hot... a car that is hard to drive when cold.. on the flip side, very rewarding to drive on a track.. and although the GTi might be good fun on the track it's certainly not quite as focused as I think a real 'sports' car is. Real sports cars don't have very good radio's if any.
Sports cars are subjective... and to the guy who goes from a V6 auto Commodore, then yeah a 118TSI is probably going to feel kinda sporty.. I'm climbing out of my track car into a Golf TSI and I am pretty sure it's not going to feel very sporty.
