I don't think anyone here is being particularly constructive.

Whilst this has nothing to with what the OP questioned, obviously the 118 has more power and torque than the others - 90tsi, 77tdi etc. however it is simply not marketed under an associated high performance label.

Useless semantic arguments don't help any body.

to the original question at hand, APR do not do in house performance tuning for volkswagen.

    What was the question?

Basically I see the ask as. "Is the 1.4 TSI in the forthcoming POLO GTI the same engine as in the 118 TSI Golf but simply in a higher state of tune or are there other mechanical differences?

and it looks like VW has enough confidence in the 7 speed DSG to accept the higher power and torque figures of the new Polo GTI - or are there any mechanical differences in the DSG in the Polo GTI and the 118TSI?

Haven't looked yet but as stated it's probably somewhere in the Polo forum.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

It is the identical engine and gearbox

The question was answered in the 2nd post of the thread (by myself, although the question of the gearbox wasn't asked until you bought it up).

Not worth getting too worked up over the "sports" tag anyway as it obviously means different things to different people. I mean this ad says it all

    Lol. Good point.

Although, with the Golf, the "Sport" tag affects insurance, and also what cars the P platers can obtain access to. For example, a P plater can get an except to drive the 118TSI, as Volkswagen do not position it as a sports model in their lineup. They can't get an exception for the GTI though as it is marketted as a sports model in the lineup.

But as jayjay pointed out. The discussion is pointless. The cars are what Volkswagen make them and call them, and the original question was is the engine the same or have changes been made, and that's been answered

Then so is the 103TDI Comfortline, as just with the 118TSI Comfortline, it's also available with the optional "Sport Package" with the sporty Tyre Pressure Monitoring Function and other "Sporty" features like that

In the end, it doesn't matter what my opinion is or what your opinion is. Volkswagen call it a Comfortline. Insurance groups and P Plate restrictions etc are all based around that.

The 118TSI is simply a replacement for the MKV 2L FSI model.

Just as the old 2L FSI was available, for a time, in Sportsline spec so is the 118TSI available with the Sport pack.

It's hardly a sports model. If it IS then you would have to think the poor old 77TSI is the "normal" non-sport model.

    Dave-

take it easy champ. Just expressing my opinion. not justifying my purchase!!

I test drove both GT models, a standard 2.0tdi and a GTI before choosing the GT sport TSI.

If I wanted the gti I would have bought one. It suited my needs best out of the 4 and I picked one up for an amazing price with only 4000kms on the clock.

Why can't we have a civil discussion? The problem is it's all text on a screen and all the nuances of body language and tone are lost.
