    I think moral of the story is don't buy a car with the 118 twin charger engine, particularly if it's coupled to a DQ200 DSG as you've just about guaranteed yourself a major component failure right there. Or if you do, then sell it while it's still got some warranty left. If you plan on keeping it more than 3 years I'd seriously be investing in extended warranty and leaving the car stock(ish). But I'm sure you knew all that anyway.

    The misfire in all cylinders; most likely related to a bad fuel, vacuum leak or something else than ignition coil or spark plug. The ignition coils wouldn't fail all 4 at the same time. I use Inteject 415Y in the fuel tank and connected to Inteject equipment, checking the colour of the fuel which indicates what kind of contamination is there. Try to find the workshop that uses Inteject injector/fuel system cleaner and get a bottle of 415R, it will get rid off the water in fuel very quickly and safely.

    The short trips every day (or most of the time) aren't good for the engine, incomplete combustion by-products will pollute the engine and decrease the life of the oil in sump. You probably know that, but do you change the oil every 7,500km ? If not, consider that, unless you keep your car no more than for 3-5 years.

    Don't accelerate hard too often when the engine is cold.

    Get the engine checked is not a bad idea.

    I'm sure you get on the top of what's causing the misfire.

    I have the manual so at least it's only one part that has reported issues in this vehicle The twincharge is something I am very aware and conscious of and I have to say as much as I love the thing the draw of more power + that impending doom that is the 118TSI makes we want to sell it off and get into a GTI or R.


    As for fuel, I've just gone back through my records and my last fill up was December 21st so it seems like I have been sitting on this fuel for a little while. I suppose I should think about using an additive if it's going to help preserve the fuel.


    Back on the stock tune and I'm still seeing misfires. At lunch time yesterday at ~32C (after washing it) I started it up and a couple of revs in the driveway saw a few misfires. Driving it down to the shops and back (which is only a few km) saw a couple more.

    At 7am this morning on the way to the station I saw a couple too although it's barely warmed up even by the time I'm parking it at the station.

    Servicing is every 12 months since I do so few km's and it works out to be less than 7,500km per year anyway.

    Aaron just on this, you know every gear change is a controlled misfire yeah? On my polo I can see on certain gear changes it logs a misfire whereas on others it doesn't....

    Surely that shouldn't log a misfire. The DSG ECU instructs the engine ECU to momentarily cut the ignition on certain shifts, and for a particular duration; the system certainly should know better than to log that as a misfire. I've done my fair share of DSG shifts and haven't ever noticed a misfire be logged.

    It's nothing I would call consistent enough to be on a particular shift.

    I'm booked into to have it looked at in a couple of weeks although I think I would get a better answer if I can talk to one of the techs. (and even then I need someone who knows a little more than the apprentice re-filling the oil).

    Essentially I'm seeing a parameter I shouldn't be able to which in itself isn't causing any running issues nor is it logging a fault code... There is a better than average chance they simply say "nothing wrong" meaning "no fault codes". In either case I'm going to try and drop in and ask a couple of questions
