Sure, the model will be discontinued soon, but as far as I can tell it's their most popular car. Letting the customers down will result in bad word-of-mouth.

And yes, I have one - and I'm not happy with the way the engine failed after 39,000km, the lack of help from my dealer, and the fact that it still has problems after replacing all the pistons and otherwise "fixing" it.

Does the company really want some of its most enthusiastic supporters to turn against it?
Bear in mind that for every 1 person who complains on our forums, there will be 99 other people who have no issue at all or just believe that is how the car is meant to operate and are happy with it.

For a car that's been around for 40 years and sold something like 30 million vehicles, the Golf (or any car) is bound to have the odd issue.

Small comfort for those who've been impacted though I'm sure...

Wasn't the warranty on the DSG extended to 5yrs? The car therefore had 1.5yrs of warranty left on the DSG?
    And what's with "goodbye" posts?

25% of all Golfs sold in Australia are GTIs. See link about 1/2 way down.

Fact remains the 118TSI has issues (as does the polo gti) so it is a widespread problem. Can't say it is isolated to a few cars and not hundreds/thousands of others given the almost daily commemts from various ownets. Kind of like the government denying the existence of UFOs a la Roswell........

Yet the problems with the Polo GTI version of the engine are not the same as those experienced by 118tsi Golfs owners.

Love the comment about UFOs... next you'll be saying we never landed on the moon.

More like 99 complaining and 1 lucky one who will one day be complaining. All 5 of the people I know, including my brother, who all own 118 7 speed DSG Jettas and Golfs have had 1 replacement engine or new pistons (or both with my brother's) and all have had at least 1 mechatronics replacement and clutch packs. All have between 45,000km to 95,000km and all have been stranded on the side of the road. Yet it says a lot of the cars that they are all still "believers" in the brand. All are glad that the warranty rescued them and have either taken out extended warranty or will when the time comes. So let's not pretend it's an abnormal one-off - it's endemic to the specification.

Sounds like someone is about to have a very ugly second-hand car experience...

Hmmm... funny subject to be posting. Even though I plan to move out of the VAG stable, the fact is I liked the design & philosophy behind the VAG cars. This is something I'll have in common with all of you no matter what I drive in future.

I think it's silly to stop interacting with like-minded people just because of a bad experience with a car. We're all pretty much on the same page when it comes to the Golf. I for one won't be saying goodbye vwwatercooled. Sheesh. It's not just a place to ask the odd question, but an online community.

btw hentai is japanese anime p0rn. So hentaiboy can go and play with his hentai while the world still carries on.
