You do save fuel with APR, more low down torque = same acceleration with less pedal pushing/revs. Of course if you can't help yourself hooning around everywhere with the extra power then that's your problem

Cool. Thanks for the info. Over here we have two grades of fuel. Super which is at least 92 RON and Premium which is 95 RON. Fuel flap on my 118tsi states minimum 95 RON and that's all I've use since I got the car in April this year.

Recent price hikes to Premium only had me contemplating testing Super out but I will stick to 95.

A friend of mine mixes the two. Half premium and half super. I have no clue if blending gasoline is linear in terms of octane number but I figured he should end up with 93.5 and he reports no problems after nearly two years.

That then lowers the savings of 91 vs 98 to half... is it really worth the screwing around of mixing?

Just to clarify, he mixes 95 and 92 in equal amounts approximately. I'm replying from Trinidad where we only have two octanes available: 92 and 95. We don't have 98 at all.

All the more reason to avoid mixing different fuels and just use the 95RON.
The car is tuned to run on 95RON and using any thing less will likely cause engine knock. The car should then constantly try to adjust settings to reduce the knock but that can't be good in the long run. Better to just pay the extra at the pump instead of the workshop.

Does anyone use the ethanol fuels? United do the ethanol 98 and 100.

Report after 31 months and 47000 km on my 118 TSI DSG

Heat shield rattle - shield adjusted, fixed
Leaking drivers side door seal - door adjusted, fixed
Leaking rear shock absorbers - fixed
Clunk in front suspension - reported 4 times, reproduced on test drive each time, attempted fix each time, suspect lower control arm bushes, new control arms ordered after 4th report.
Shuddering in DSG - faulty clutch pack replaced, fixed
Rattle in passengers side door trim - reported twice, door trim tightened, noise came back each time, not fixed
Intermittent buzz from dash when accelerating at low RPM, couldn't reproduce on test drive, not fixed
Faulty engine software - updated under service campaign
Faulty gearbox software - updated under service campaign

This was the fifth new car I have purchased and it has had significantly more defects than any of the others at the same age. I will be reluctant to buy another VW and will not be keeping the vehicle as a long termer as originally planned.

Please ppl for the love of god and VW do not use e blended fuels in your vw's. I have worked on countless 118's and other variants with engine faults and many failures due to poor fuel, aka eblended fuels. Minimum 95, be good to your vehicle and it will be good to you. That's just my professional pov. Cheers.

Sorry to hear all of your issues prise. I've just had the DSG problems (clutch + mech replaced, then I purchased a DSG tune to fix the underlying cause imo), and have had the odd noise, but the car is otherwise fantastic and I look forward to each drive, so I'd rather take the bad with the good rather than spend 5 figures on just "some car" to borrow a phrase from TopGear. I sort-of get why they like Alfa's now

Another person I know tried a full tank of 92 cold turkey because of the price hike for 95 here. His check engine light came on after 4 days! You're right.

yes, dealer put a tank full in my car when it was new. Power & torque dropped noticeably & fuel ecomy was much worse. Not worth it.
