I have been driving my Golf mk6 118tsi for almost 2 years now. current mileage is 95000km as of this morning. So far only had one problem where the mechatronic was replaced at approx 88000km. I bought the APR tune at 92xxxkm. After the tune, the car misfires. Solved it by installing the NGK BKR7EIX plugs.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I'm torn on what to do.
2 years on, my MY11 118tsi is approaching 1 year left on warranty. Hasn't missed a beat so far except for small DSG niggles which the latest reflash has greatly improved. So my question is, how likely is it that my engine could give in after the warranty period? Would it be best to just take the financial loss and sell it now?
Am i just being paranoid? As I said, i haven't had any issues so far so it may well drive all the way into the 200K+ without a hitch. My initial thought is that after 2 years any potential engine problems would have probably arisen by now?
very wallet itchy right now considering the good deals on gti's atm

Was your car built after the 24S4 campaign, or was it flashed? I'm not aware of any instances of major problems with 118TSI engines built after the campaign was rolled out, although the odd car that has been flashed has had subsequent problems (probably due to pre-existing damage).
All Mk6s will definitely take a beating in depreciation about when the Mk7 comes out (in fact, from about now really as the market is anticipating the new model release), so that's worth bearing in mind - you might be better off holding on to it for another year or two until the values settle some.

I'm not sure if it was after the campaign, but I didn't get a letter in the mail for the recall so I assume it was ok. Is there anyway to check this? Considering I'd be lucky to get 24K for it, you're probably right on holding onto it. Might just APR it and drive it for the next 10-15 years until it falls apart.

Open the driver door and you should see a silver plate on the A pillar
Going by my only first hand experience with my brother's 118 TSI DSG purchased new late in 2009 I'd be dumping it. The DSG had a new mechatronics after coming to a dead stop on the freeway and later a new clutch pack. Then at 58,000km it got a new long motor after piston failures and recently needed new pistons and rings at 95,000km. All this has been inside warranty and he has just purchased an extra 2 years. A wonderful car to drive, look at and travel in but long term ownership is crap. And the inconvenience of those warranty problems would kill it for me - I don't buy cars to go though that.
