I don't get it but then maybe I'm really dense. When I went to school (a very, very long time ago) 2 litres in less than 2,000KM was significantly greater consumption than the 500 ml in 1,000 KM "considered acceptable" by VW.

I'm sure that maths has not changed over the years and by my calculations the evidence is that the engine is using more than the "VW accepted" amount and therefore an oil consumption test would be in order to determine the actual consumption.

Just wondering did you ask for this to be done?

Am looking at booking it in for an oil consumption test next week.

And you are right, 2L in les sthan 2,000Klms is less less than the generous "500ml in 1,000Klm considered accepatable by VW".

At this rate if I kept the car for 100,000Klm I would end up paying around $4,000 for oil - wonder how much of Castrol VW own.

Update - went to the dealer for a consumption test and they ended up feeding the car another litre.

That makes it 3 litres in around 2,500klm.

So much for the 500ml per 1000klm crap.

Just keep taking it back for top-ups. They won't do a consumption test until it's been fully run in (~5,000km).

Hmmm ok that is a bit strange. Yes consumption test seems to be in order.

Latest update with the oil guzzler.

Dealer conducted 2nd part of test last week - this week I get an email saying VW Australia would like to pull the engine apart.

Am I entitled to ask for a new engine? Car is 27 months and 29,000 klm old.

    Absolutely my last comment.

Dealer replaced 4 pistons. Picked up car yesterday evening.

Engine revving unusually high at idle.

This morning car will not start - VW road service came to have a loom and could not get it started.

Car back at dealer and am on shanks pony.

Interestingly for me VW road service tried to tell me that no record of my car rego or vin exists under my name - I have owned it since new. Perhaps VW do not want them to keep a log of the multiple times it has been towed back to the dealer or had issues.
