Unhappy 118 TSI - DSG Oil

I am having more problems with this lemon of a car. Now it appears that there is a transmission noise and my first thoughts are an oil check on the DSG. What sort of oil do thes ethings use. Can anyone point me to a wiki? I had a wuick look a few weeks ago but could not see an oil level plug on the box (only the drain plug).

I have just spent the last 3 weeks stuffing around with tyres (swapping and getting balance and rotation checked etc) to no avail. I have checked discs and axles this afternoon, all run true with no obvious issues. I wish this car could just be driven without constantly coming up with new problems. There seeems to be just one problem after the next.

The gearbox isn't designed to regularly have it's oil replaced, so I'm not sure why there would be a level plug. The oil is replaced at 60,000km intervals. I don't have specific details on the oil for the 7 sp though.....

The gearbox is filled for life. Therefore, there is no need to check the oil level of this gearbox. This explains why there is no oil level check. There is a drain plug, but it is only intended for use with remedial action after an oil leak has developed. Renewing oil will require removing a cover off the gearbox and several other bits and pieces to allow you to do this. Would NOT be wise to go there unless you really know what you are doing.
The short of it is - Unless you have a leak that you can see - you can assume there is sufficient oil in the gearbox.
