But I think that's what the issue is with fuel in Australia vs say in Canada - which is the topic that A Current Affair were discussing. Particularly in Australia during summer, the sun heats up the concrete or asphalt on the ground which in turn heats up the earth below it - heating the fuel in the tanks which are just underneath. Sure, the tempurature regulation is better than if the tank were above ground, but there is still a diff in ground temp, even a few metres below ground, between summer Australia and winter Canada. This is enough to record a measured difference in the fuel coming from the bowser - and is enough for the petrol companies to measure the fuel differently at the bowser in Canada vs Australia.

And to my lame eyes, the tank looks like plastck, feels like plastic, and sounds like plastic, so guess what I call it....
Erm, waddling plastic??? I just hope it's tough enough to resist 'quacking'.

No, it's flipping plastic, not waddling plastic... It's the stuff they make spatulas out of so they don't damage non-stick surfaces...

Well, it's unlikely to be me!

Getting right back on topic, after filling up again last Saturday and driving to work and home Monday, and to work this morning, my range display tells me 1080km. It cost me $56 for the first fill for two week's driving, and $47 on Saturday.

There is a downside to all this though, the infernal car insists on hooning along despite my valiant efforts to hold it back.

    Yes, *ahem* back on topic...

This can only be a good thing - anyone notice the price of fuel creeping skyward again? (and this with a relatively high A$ too)... IMO ladies and gentlemen, fuel economy is gonna become very much more important over the coming months...

    Regards,
    - Anthony.

This is utterly amazing Anthony, I was sitting on the off-ramp having just pulled off the Kwinana Freeway waiting to turn right into Canning Highway and my Range was reading 1160km! I'd just travelled 41km from work. Can anyone beat that? Sadly I didn't have a camera with me at the time, so you'll have to take my word for that figure.

I have no reason not to believe you...

Out of interest, are you using any particular brand of diesel to get these figures?

    - Anthony.
