So looks like there are 2 different V6 ISO's floating around, identical size, one is bad and gives the symptoms I explained (missing road names, missing textures when zoomed in etc..) one is good and looks identical to v5 (But i guess more up to date roads etc..)
The way to tell if you have good or bad is to check the hash of the ISO file you downloaded.. If you don't know how to calculate the MD5 sum of your iso, download HashTab for windows and then right click the file, properties and check the Hash tab, it will calculate the MD5...

Fantastic result. Maps working beautifully for me too now, although haven't had a chance to try Nav yet. Looks like I was working with the bad ISO originally also.
