    Delphi versus Bosch

    Hi guys,
Couldnt see a direct comparison anywhere that i could find but i would like to ask the question. I'm finding that you can get delphi units with the RVC port. I know that these seem to be chinese but what are the advantages of the bosch then. Do the delphi's still work with all of the steering wheel buttons. What about displaying the track info in the MFD on the dash remembering that i have the red display. Currently when i have the track info showing, the very right hand buttons on the steering wheel act as skipping to the next track and i like that. I'm looking at upgrading to an RCD510 but i dont want to buy the wrong one and have things missing as features. The RVC is a must as well. Does anyone actually know the difference?

Bosch unit made in Portugal, has RDS radio function and BT telephone menu IF you have a compatible 9w7 BT unit. I had this set up in my old 2008 Tiguan that had a red MFD which did not support the latest 9w7 units. The disadvantage was the telephone button on the SW would not work so I just used the touch display button on the radio to answer make calls etc

New Bosch RCD 510's fitted in Aus VW's, no longer have the RVC input and have the part number with a letter "B" at the end.
There are 3 types of Delphi units all made in China
The basic one with with no external iPod connection or RVC input, the intermediate that has iPod connection only and the premium that has both. The disadvantage of the Delphi units is that do not have the RDS radio function and I think they also do not support the 9w7 BT phone either as none of them show the "phone" button next to the display.
Personally I would go for the latter as a version "A" Bosch units will be second hand, good ones are rare and will be expensive, do not get pre 2010 units without the letter "A" initial as they have a very slow processor for accessing the SD card data and are not fully compatible with the latest 9w7 units in showing the address book etc. The start up screens for these units is in colour where as the version A units is not colour

With the Delphi unit you can attach an iPod have a RVC input and always later fit a basic 9w2 BT unit which will work with your SW telephone button to answer/reject incoming calls

The manufacture date of the Bosch can be distinguished by the 4 digit FD value which is printed on a white label which is stuck on top of the unit. It uses the same analogy as tyre manufactures where the first 2 digits indicate year of manufacture and the last week of manufacture eg FD 1228 is July 2012

Is there any difference in Audio Quality/Responsiveness between the various models, and is it true that this older model of Bosch (with camera connector) is slow at reading SDCards?
