    6R Polo air dam (The plastic bit that sticks down under the front bumper) and mounts

    I'm trying to get better economy at 110km/h and over because the economy at these speeds certainly isn't what I expected so I'm doing every possible incremental thing to help. The previous owner had the air dam removed due to scraping.

    Surely there are heaps of you out there that have lowered 6R Polos to the point where you could not get in any driveway without scraping and removed the air dam. There seem to be plenty of verrrrry low Polo owners here.

    You might be out of luck mate. These air dams are pop riveted on and I would assume people have just cut it down rather than drill out the riverts to take it off neatly. Just wondering but what kind of economy were you looking for above speeds of 110?

    I don't really think that plastic flap would help much as the skid pan allready has a scoop to allow the air to go under quickly without too much resistance.

    In any case I might one day get around to installing my front springs and I will have to take that lip off so I will keep it In mind to keep it in good condition

    Cheers. I'll price it up new and keep an eye on this thread as I'm sure new is way too expensive.

    I figured that even with all the cost cutting these days, nearly all car manufacturers use these air dams on small hatches. Even my work's Hyundai i20's have one. They must make a difference because if they didn't, car manufacturers would be the first to get rid of them.

    Your economy is going to suffer over 110 anyway. Iv done trips right on 110 all the way. The the same trip at about 120 increased fuel buy nearly 1L per 100km.

    If you want better economy stay under 110.

    Thats true... but I also think it could be used to either keep road debree out of the air vents that cool the gearbox etc or just used as a scapegoat for when you go over low gutters and stuff.

    I'll be honest I only know a little about aerodynamics but I would have thought that a 4cm flat piece of plastic would be a lot more restricting than the scoop on the skid pan or a splitter which they use on track cars. From what I know you want to cut the air and deflect it rather than the air slapping against somthing and getting pushed around it.

    I tend to find I'm getting about 6-6.8 L p/100 at 110km/h so I don't know how far off your numbers are but I guess that's what you should be looking for. If I drop down to about 85-95 I can get about 5L. Mine is the 1.2T so it probably gives different fuel readings to the GTI

    gr8 economy with non snappy drivig = cruise control
    and correct tyre pressures ! good spark plugs
    I do have nice cordoba lip with scoops and 1997 will ship it compl for $90 to Tas!!
    you coul cut and adapt with a thin blade in a grinder to be most effective...
