Did you tell your insurance company ????

I recently bought and installed the bluefin/superchips remap from JKM performance in the UK. Bargain priced at $644 AU including postage for my MY10 Skoda RS 2.0 TSI. Wow, what a differance in grunt at 2.5k-4k rpm. Was ready for a big hit when I rang GIO, but they were cool with it and only increased my premium by $5 a month. An all round bargain for the extra omph !!

Yes, I'm with Suncorp, told them and it did not change the price, only the excess payable by $200. And thats all the mods I've got on the Tig, not just the chip.

sharkie, did you get that in writing?

Insurance companies are great to deal with, until you try to make a claim!! and your car is modified and theres no written evidence of you informaing them and them accepting the mods

Yes, have it in writing. It is actually printed on and included as a part of my policy documents.

    thats good news.

both my cars are tweaked quite a bit and all mods are listed on my policies and typically cost about 50% more premium

I asked this question when getting quotes for my Golf R.
Allianz are a flat out "No Insurance if modified", but RACV are fine with it along as it will meet the roadworthy requirements. Didn't bother asking others as their quotes were really high anyway.

I'm with GIO. The bloke was super helpful and double checked with supervisors etc that it wasn't required to be listed but I made them put it on the policy anyway. No premium or excess increase but they have an extra excess for the class of car regardless.

I'm with NRMA, and as with RACV, they're no longer interested in listing any modifications/accessories/options. All they care is that the car meets roadworthy requirements and what you want the "total value including all modifications and accessories" to be insured for, and what excess you'd like to pay. They then insure whatever is attached to the vehicle at the time, leaving it to the owner to ensure roadworthiness.

Yep, I got the same spiel form NRMA when I wanted to list my DNA tune as a modification last week... Too easy these days!!!

I'm with AAMI and they have no dramas with my tune... I have all of my mods listed on my policy.
