    Vag-Com cable ???

    Hi guys,

I am wanting to purchase a Vag-com cable through Ross-Tech, but it is $250 + $98 shipping to Aus! I don't really want to pay $100 shipping for that, so was wondering if anyone is selling theirs? I just need the Micro-Can one because I have a Mk5.

It will need to be a proper one that has the licence as well... Can anybody help me out?? I live in Queensland and am willing to pay for postage.

    Cheers

The license is in the cable, you just download the software, which is free.

It isn't that expensive if you have to go to a dealer 3 or 4 times for a scan, it's paid for itself. Plus you can get 75% of your money back if you ever sell it.

I'm thinking of buying one too. I need to do some RNS/RVC coding in my Tiguan as well tweaks to my Mk5.

I had an early Ross Tech program & an Ebay cable that wouldn't work with my later VAG cars. Ross Tech had/has a deal that gave a credit on my early program for the new HEX+CAN dongle. I also baulked at the $100 shipping so the contact at Ross Tech arranged for the postage to come from one of their agents in Oz, Mount Auto Eguip in Brookvale NSW. Cost including handling +GST worked out at $26.40. Clive mount also told me that he would match the best price that Ross Tech offered & postage within Aust. would be at the local price.
I agree with Gavin, buy your own. It will soon pay for itself.
I think we are now in the times where owning a VAG car, VCDS is a necessary tool.
Also as Gavin said , the license is in the cable, so as updates are available you receive prompts to download the latest software. This means it doesn't become obsolete with technology changes in the cars of the future, a great deal.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

I have a cable, hex+can. Live Northside and work at the airport. I don't mind helping folk out for a small consideration. I use my cable for data logging most of the time so don't expect me to know how to code everything and anything. print off the how to's and we'll be set.

I always take screen shots or make notes in case something doesn't work so original settings can be made.

    HI Gavin,

I might take you up on this as I'm not sure I want to do this myself. Owning my own cable seems to make sense but the Tig is only 1 month old (having said that I need to fit the RVC so I might get over this soon). I think that I would want to do it the first time with someone else and then do it myself from there.

What I'm really worried about is killing the car and having to get it towed. Seeing as this would be very visible to my better half, I would never get to forget it!

v8snerlo, I've not done anything with this yet as I've been travelling interstate for the last week or so and I've not had the time to think about it. Did you get anywhere?

I know a mate who says that he knows someone with one that would be willing to help out, hopefully. I have my RVC pretty much ready to go now so I'm keen to get this rolling!!

OK. I think that enabling the RVC before pulling the car apart should allow me to confirm the hardware is good before fully installing it.

Gavin, I work in the Valley so getting to the airport shouldn't be an issue. I'm also in Coorparoo on Saturday mornings.

I'll send out a PM to you and v8snerlo to see if we can fix a time that suits.
