    Exclamation mk1lyf

So I finally got rid of the a3 and bought my dream car, a mk1 golf. To turn that dream into a relatively wet one it came with the added bonus of an aussie delivered mk2 gti engine with a weber carb (on passat mani) which is mated to the original 4 sp box as well as the 'weight reduction package' which is where the car only came with 2 doors instead of 4. Perfect. Couldn't be happier. Sold the a3 on friday and the following Monday drove up to Sydney with a mate, picked the car up on Tuesday morning and drove it home. Made the trip back to Melbourne no worries and has been going strong since (havent taken the train to uni since... )

Anyway everyone likes pictures so here we go

Initially I hated the colour but its really grown on me - wanted to respray it 'mexican beige' but at the moment i'm thinking i'll leave it blue and just freshen it up. I'm heading away to NYC for a month to see a good friend of mine and the girlfriend has attempted to stop me from spending any decent sums of money on the car until we return, but a couple things have been done here and there and there's plenty more to come

picked up these bad ass porsche 924 seats as the current ones have definitely seen better days

a mate's old man is an upholster so will be getting these recovered sooner rather than later (fingers crossed)
i got a boss kit and wheel off frenchy (stiggy21) which squeaks like a bitch (very annoying) and have since changed the wheel over to this one i got off ebay (holden horn ring and all)
I've also ordered some white wall inserts to rock on the current 13" steelies until I find a decent set of wheels for the right price, so far i'm leaning towards enkei 92's (or similar)

the overall plan for the car is to keep it as my daily drive and clean it up, think i learnt enough from the a3 that its not always about how low, wide, big etc your wheels/car can be.

    the hit list

-give the car a proper clean (still haven't touched it really since getting back from sydney)
-ROOF RACKS (if anyone has old gutter mount racks with a basket i'm super keen - been hanging out for the right rack to pop up)
-new carpets (knox auto carpets - ~$155)
-new dash (get around me anyone with a decent dash!! )
-get original vw key (ordered one, waiting for it and needs to be cut etc)
    -new rubbers/chrome inserts
-get the quarter light windows working again (currently siliconed in)
-replace strut in the boot so it stays up
-get the porsche seats in and also fix/replace rear seat (yet again, anyone with a decent condition rear seat in the same colour, get around me)
-coilovers (most likely something cheap and chirpy - wait until im back from overseas)
-porsche 924 script door handles (mainly for super steez points but also my drivers door handle is all wobbly/broken etc)
-wire in audio etc (picked up and old alpine graphic eq - currently at an old radio restoration place)
-further down the track (summer holidays most likely) wanting to strip the thing and give the body a good going over (respray, most likely close door) get all the dings etc out of it and what not
-and last but not least get the car roadied and registered in victoria - currently driving around on nsw plates not sure if its registered or whats going on

Have to say, the RV engine and DGR weber work quite well. Such a beaut to drive

You're a funny guy. My last name doesn't lend itself well to such a pun.

As in the dings in it and what not? The body is rough, but given te age I'm happy with it. Paint is in better nic than the Audi so I'm pretty pleased with that, will come up decent with a good polish. I'm planning on taking the majority of the car back to bare metal and beating or bogging as neccessary when the time comes, only thing turning me off a colour change is the fact I want it done properly and that would mean completely stripping the interior and taking the engine out to do the bay and all the door jambs etc... For now my time (and more importantly money) is being focused on the interior. Ill be looking into the Mexican rug rear seat mod soon as well
