    Broke My Polo :(

    Hi All,

It's a sad day... Just been in a bit of an accident, luckily nobody hurt and didn't damage any other vehicles.. Just mine

Coming into a corner a 4WD had taken too much of the lane i was turning into... To avoid it to swerved into the kerbing (might as well have been a small wall). Long story short my front right rim is totalled... Speed into the corner after braking was approx 30km/h + damp roads Normally wouldn't have been an issue except for the 4WD in my way... Long story short its my fault... I mis-judged the corner.

Got home and changed a rear rim to the front to see the extent of the damage without the warped rim in the way... The top of the good rim is sticking out approx 1cm from the wheel arch (normally they sit under the wheel arch easily).

Best assumption i can make of the front axle is damaged... With the good rim on the front and the irritating space saver spare on the back the car is pulling hard to the left, brakes need a big push to grip and i have very poor traction on the front Oh and i managed to pop the bumper out (but i encouraged it back where it belongs)

Any ideas on what else could be damaged?

Damn man sorry to hear. I would probably need more pictures but I assume it would have something to do with the drive line. Could be that it has broken at the cv joints (but I doubt it) or it has come out or close to coming out of the wheel hub.

It it was snapped you would have no drive as that's how a differential works. So we can more or less rule that out. I doubt the whole front assembly is bent or pushed over...but I would check the other side to see if the wheel is sitting in more.

About the pulling, I would guess the alignment is out - a very long way from the impact.

    Any scraping noises etc?

No scraping noises Other side might be in a bit more, can't really tell.

I've got it booked in for assessment on Wednesday so we'll see what the verdict is when it's up on the hoist.

Judging b the photo and without seeing the other side, (hopefully) it looks like the whole subframe has moved. This of course is dependent on if the front end has moved in the direction of impact. This would also result in the opposite wheel moving opposite to the poking wheel.
If not, just run your insurance because it could be a multitude of expensive things, like twisting the strut tower, bent/broken struts, rooted hubs and bearing carriers, busted anti rollbar end links and/or roll bar, bent control arms and if your really unlucky, a busted diff because the drive shaft has been punched into the bit of the diff it shouldn't be in. That's just the start of it!

Luckily it looks like it was the left hub, bearing carriers and control arm... Total for work including 30000k service was $1747 + a new rim $375 shipped from HK...

Less than my $2550 excess, which i'll reduce now. learned that lesson the hard way :/
