    Question 2 Channel Dashcam Installation

    Hi folks

I just bought a Blackvue 650S-2CH dashcam and the power box for my Polo. I was wondering, can I install it by myself or do I have to pay $150 to AutoOne outlet in Campbelltown? The guy said it would take four hours to install the camera. I reckon the hardest part is to route the cable for 2nd camera. I found a few forum posts about how to do it in Golf, but none for Polo. I also looked for Polo service manual for couldn't find any.

Anyone here has installed a 2 channel dashcam by themselves? Any hints on how to route the cable?

Check out the instructions for installing a reversing camera (RVC) in the Polo, the rear camera for your dashcam is going to be near enough to that for you to work out. It was easy enough in the Golfs and Amaroks I have done, I can't image the Polo would be too much different. If I was still in Campbelltown (assuming you mean in NSW ) I'd say drop around and I'll lend a hand... but I'm in Melbourne these days.

Golf pop out badge RVC into Polo 6R
(sadly alot of the photo's aren't in there anymore, but a search should turn out other options if you need them).
Speaking of that thread... do you want to put in an RVC at the same time... you know, while it's all apart?? (assuming you need/want one)

Bottom line here, how confident are you splicing in wires and pulling trim apart? Is it $150 worth of confident? It's a relatively cheap price to pay for someone else to crawl around your car vs the hours it might take you to do the same.

It's not about $150 as much as it is about the satisfaction of having done it myself.

    My major concerns are
    1) Pulling the trim apart and damaging those fragile plastic tabs. I guess I will fiddle with them a little to see if it is as easy as suggested here.
    2) Concealing the power box

What do you mean by putting in an RVC? Do you mean installing the Golf badge? My polo already has an RVC that I can use to see if my rear plate is still in place or not (at least I think it's a camera, unless VW uses a periscope in Polo to lower the costs )

    BTW, Yes. Campbelltown NSW

Run the cable for the rear camera under the door sill trims and tuck it up where the B pillar is Then run it up the rear trim. Buy a set of these body tools

PM me for instructions on how to remove rear trim

You can hook the Power magic box into fuse box quite easily .

I installed a DR650S-1CH and power box in mine the other day, it's a pretty simple install. The hardest part about the 2CH would be running the cable to the rear camera, if you want it clean you'd probably have to run it under the roof lining and through the stock rubber grommet location onto the rear hatch. Get yourself some plastic trim tool so you don't damage any of the plastics.

    Here's mine.

I ran the power cable under the roof lining then across and under the A-pillar plastic cover, then down behind the dash where I installed the power box. All of the cabling is totally hidden, except for the small section that runs down to the camera.

Have a watch of this 2CH install, there's lots of good tips in it for a clean install.

The hardest part of the install is the rear camera (from experience in my Passat). I have not installed one into the polo yet though. In the Passat I ended up using 3m picture hanging strips to mount it to the roof lining instead.

This is a noob question but how hard is the wiring job as well as removing the trim?
I have just the front dash cam and want to hard wire but am debating if I should pay someone for it.
The removal of the A pillar trim concerns me the most.

Usually you dont need to remove it if you have a body tool or even a wider screwdriver you can ease the cable between the windscreen and the trim.

I have never removed the trim in 6 installs. If you hard wire it do it properly and dont jamb wires down the sides of fuses

Use these for safety and one of these so you can use the original plug as some run on 5 V.

If you dont know how to use these best get someone who does.

Cool stuff... I have a Mini 0806 Dashcam that is in the same spot (roughly) in the front and I am just about to 'hide' the wiring after having it hanging for over a year.

I am heading to the Cigarette Lighter, using a relay to trigger power, for another couple of Micro USB points.

Also going to install the same camera in the rear somehow too... using the same point for power.

Now just a question... in the 2nd image, do the end caps of the dashboard just pop off with trim removal tools ?

    Cheers
