Since the previous Golf R Specifications and Prices thread had grown to 125 pages, we thought it was time to start a new thread on this topic.

If there are any posts or information from the previous thread that you feel is valuable and should be included at the start of this thread, please point it out and I'll include it.

Pricing is RRP only and does not include the extensive list of items which make up the "On Road" or "Drive Away" costs (dealer delivery, luxury car tax, stamp duty, registration, Compulsory Third Party-insurance, Number Plates, etc). These items will vary based on dealer, state, your residence post code, your age & driving history, and the options you select.

Golf R Price Calculator Spreadsheet This pricing calculator is "unofficial" and was created by me. Most recently updated for 2010 - 2011 financial year and to account for rego changes in NSW on Aug 8. Please see this post for details on the calculator spreadsheet.


Price difference between Golf GTI and Golf R:
The Golf GTI 3 door manual costs $38,990, so "base to base model" there is $9,500 difference. However, the Golf R's standard items contains several of the GTI's options:
Metallic Paint $500
Bi-Xenon $2,000
18" Wheels $1,200
Tinted rear glass $400

This brings the cost difference down to $5,400.
In addition, the Golf R also includes front and rear PDC which is worth around $1000, bringing the difference to around $4,400. It also includes the highly desirable LED taillights which GTI owners are spending upwards of $1,000 to have fitted - $3,400. You then have AWD, a more powerful engine, better brakes, better suspension etc...

Of course, some people just want a base model. Other people select many options, so the difference in cost between a Golf GTI and Golf R will really come down to each person's requirements. Either way, both cars are great value.

Change of air conditioning rotary dials from chrome to matt black.

I heard that the VW corporate discount no longer applies to the Golf R. Is this true?

Hmmm ok cheers. I was at a dealership on Saturday getting priced up for a 5 door Golf R. My employer is eligible for the VW discount, and I've used it before when I bought a Polo. I asked about getting the discount on the Golf R, and the sales guy told me that because of the demand for the Golf R, VW have removed it from the corporate discount program. Which...to me was very disappointing, because I was looking forward to saving some cash.

If there is anybody that can confirm this, I would like to know.

i received a Corp Discount but I purchased my R what feels like a lifetime ago. I had more hair and no grey!!! Between the Valuim and Viagra that I now require I don't know whether I'm comin' or goin'

there is not much in it.. I have seen the pricelist.. Corp discount is small on the R
