Just curious - but why do you need a phone holder when you have bluetooth - it's not like you're a courier driver in your new Golf R?
My phone never leaves my pocket - on the odd occasion when I need to charge it, I put in where the drinks are and slide the cover shut most of the way. Surely having a cheap phone holder on the air-vents would look unsightly on that expensive car. As I said, just curious

In my old car, I bought a universal phone holder from a 3 store/dealer - was adjustable to suit pretty much any phone and cost about $20. I used it as my phone was my GPS in my old car, plus I didn't have bluetooth, so I could discreetly turn on the loudspeaker on the phone.

Maybe some people want to use their phone for navigation, or apps, or something?

I use it for navigation. I do have one for my old car, but it doesn't fit on the MK6 golf since the vents seem to be a lot deeper.

I forgot to mention my one stuck to the front window, so it was just above the right-airvent for me (still fine).

I hate the ones which have uses suction to hold onto the windscreen since I hate the marks it leaves.

I sit my mobile in the very front of the driver's door map pocket/drink holder, standing upright. My wallet keeps it propped up, unless I engage in particulalrly spirited acceleration. I can see the screen flash if I get a call or SMS, so I can pull over and deal with it (haven't fitted the Bluetooth yet).

Fair enough. Because the one I had didn't look like a GPS holder I left it in 24/7. You can buy moist towletts (like the ones you get from KFC) from the supermarket which should get rid of those marks as well.

What factory options can you install AFTER delivery?

I was this close to buying the GTI but the bosses still haven't given me a clear direction on when I can move over down under, so I am kinda stuck.

Wife will be over first but doesn't want that much power and in fact prefers a Polo but they seem higher priced than Golfs at the moment due to the driveaway promo.

So I'm looking at getting an entry level Golf first.. maybe for her to potter around it, and maybe it won't be so painful if she kerbs the rims etc.

The 77TSi seems quite nicely priced.

The thing is because of the promo, most of the cars are really really under-spec-ed.

I have been reading that owners have managed to upgrade the audio system to RCD/RNS510 and even add the Optical Parking Sensors and maybe even this Xenon kit

Is there a reason why you can't fit these into a 77TSi? The reason I ask is that the options pricing in the VW brochure specifically states no to the 77TSi for a number of options. As my DIY skills are practically non-existent, it might be handy to get these from a local shop who can also install them around Brisbane/Tingalpa area.

Maybe if wife is OK with this, I'll go option up a manual GTI/R to arrive when I am ready to go over

This has been answered already elsewhere but I guess I can summarise it here.
Adaptive Chassis Control - cannot be retrofitted. Too many sensors required.
Bi-Xenon Headlights w/ Dynamic Cornering Lights - is more expensive to legally retrofit than to add the option from the factory. In Australia HIDs must have their leveling motors and headlight washers to be roadworthy. Even if the lights come with their motors attached, you'd need to install the sensors at the front AND rear of the car for the motors to know what they need to do. I've also not seen a kit with the washers...
Electric Glass Sunroof - you could go aftermarket I guess, but...
Park Assist - can't be retrofitted
    PDC/OPS rear - dealer accessory, about $700 to $800
PDC/OPS front - it CAN be done, at least with "sound warnings", however, I'm not sure whether the sensors can be integrated into the RCD/RNS or whether they still have a separate "distance module" which needs to be placed in the interior somewhere.
Rear View Camera (RVC) - it CAN be done, but dealers won't offer it because the labour is very expensive - far more than the factory option cost. Even VW specialists are quoting prices such as $1500+ for the installation... some people have successfully installed this themselves though. You require a RCD510 (with video input) or RNS510 installed first though.

Electronically Adjustable Drivers Seat - don't know anyone who's done this, but see no reason if you could find the seat.
Front Seats - Recaro - same as above
Leather Upholstery - aftermarket trim shops can do this for you. Often costs about the same as the VW option, but can offer a better quality leather and finish. You won't get the seat heating though.
Media Device Interface (MDI) - dealer can fit it, but it costs more than factory.
MY11/9ZB VW Bluetooth - dealer can fit it, but it costs more than factory.
RCD510 - plenty of people have fit these - usually bought from someone who has upgraded to RNS510
RNS510 Satellite Navigation - plenty of people have fit these
Dynaudio Excite 300W - don't know anyone who has done this. You'd just go aftermarket I presume.

There is a HUGE CAVEAT with the 77TSI though. It does NOT have a multi-function steering wheel or "full" MFD/MFI. This limits the functionality of bluetooth/mdi/satnav options as it doesn't have the buttons or display to operate them correctly.

The 77TSI is priced so well because it is not just a regular Golf with a 1.2L engine. It's a "cut down Golf with a 1.2L engine".
I've documented this recently in this post which shows the differences between it and the 90TSI which was the "traditional entry level Golf".

    Thanks for your help.

So, it would have to be a base TSi and be done with it.

I might still fit aftermarket reverse sensors... maybe change the audio system and add a reverse camera in it. And probably some anti UV tint. First time I saw UV Level: Extreme when I used the Weather app on my iPhone in Brisbane Up till then, the highest I had seen was very high.
